Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
It’s a snowy and chilly morning on Mt. Hood, and it’s going to stay cold up there for the extended forecast. We’ll have a bit of snow on Monday, a few dry days midweek, and then significant snowfall starting late in the week. Winter is back!
For Monday, steady light snowfall continues during the day with decreasing snowfall overnight. Teh Precip will be 0.2” to 0.3” water value (WV) during the day, for 2-4” of powder. A trace to an inch will fall overnight. Wind will be W 20 early, NW 10 in the afternoon, and N 25 overnight.
Excellent groom should be present on Tuesday morning under clear sky. Sunshine and cold temps stick around all day. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be at the surface. Temps will be in the teens. Wind will be N 25 early, NW 20 in the afternoon, and N 30+ after midnight.
Wind could be problematic on Wednesday morning; those northerlies can outpace model predictions. Either way, Wednesday looks sunny and cold with mountain temps in the teens . Wind will be N 30 early, N 20 in the afternoon, and NW 10 overnight.
Models agree on a pattern change starting late Thursday; the weather transitions from clear and cold to cold and snowy. The timing and temps associated with the incoming system aren’t set, but it’ll definitely be snow on the mountain. Best guess: Thursday looks cloudy with snow starting late in the evening. A few inches of snow fall overnight with snow continuing into Friday. After that, models suggest a series of cold, wet systems will impact the Northwest, leading to MORE SNOW! Yay!
Gorge Wind Forecast
The wind picture is complicated this morning as cold air pours into Oregon from both the north and the east. We’ll see light and variable wind all day. Same thing on Tuesday. Light easterlies in the east, and light westerlies in the west. Wednesday finally sees the wind switch to all-east. We’ll have light wind early and E 10-15 from Rooster to Stevenson in the afternoon. As the cold air really gets settled in the Columbia Basin on Thursday, easterlies pick up to 20-25.
JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.

Road and Mountain Biking
Temps are headed for sub-freezing, so today’s probably your last chance to get some Syncline before it goes freeze-thaw. Once the free-thaw hits, you’ll find excellent frozen trails under the canopy. One option is to ride up Post Canyon Road and do laps down Mitchell Ridge. That way you never ride exposed trails! Stay off Whoopdee too, please – the upper and lower sections are highly susceptible to freeze thaw and very inaccessible to trail workers. Damage you create on that awesome downhill will be difficult to repair. Thank you!
