Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Mt. Hood weather for the next several days looks warm and sunny. After that, the temps may drop for a bit, but the weather will remain sunny. Next chance of precip of any sort isn’t until next Thursday.

For this Thursday, expect sunshine in the morning and high clouds in the afternoon. The free air freezing level will be 1500′ early and 8000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be light westerly early building to NNW 15 in the afternoon and NW 25 overnight. Friday looks sunny with high clouds possible in the evening. Free air freezing level: 8000′ early and 10,000′ in the afternoon. Wind: NW 25 early, N 25 in the afternoon, and N 15 overnight.

Saturday also looks sunny, although high clouds may enter the mix in the afternoon. The freezing level will be 10,000′. Wind will be N 15 early, light and variable in the afternoon, and NW 20 overnight. Sunday will be sunny too! Freezing level 10,000′ during the day, falling to 1000′ overnight as cold air pours in from Canada. Wind will be NW 20 early,, NW 35 in the afternoon, and ENE 25 after midnight. We’ll want to keep a close eye on the wind for Monday as a stable air layer at 8000-10000′ could initiate a downslope windstorm on Mt. Hood. Rare, and very exciting when it happens!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Yesterday’s Gorge windstorm was quite impressive: downed trees, power flickers, gusts over 60 at Viento and Swell. Today, Thursday, will be less exciting. We’ll see westerlies at 5-10 from Stevenson to The Dalles this morning with E 5-10 far east. In the afternoon, the wind will fade to very light westerly. Friday starts off with W 20-23 from Viento to Mosier with light wind east of there. In the afternoon, the wind will fade to W 7-10. Saturday looks like E 20-25 from Rooster Rock to Viento with light wind in other locations. If the forecast holds for Sunday, we’ll have relatively steady westerlies at 23-26 from Viento to Doug’s Beach.

JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.

Road and Mountain Biking

With all the wind yesterday, methinks Syncline will be awfully nice today. Post is probably still too wet, but maybe not by the weekend. Same for Hospital and Whoopdee. Road biking today, Thursday, will be off the charts: upper 40’s, sun for part of the day, and light wind. Yes! Today is NOT a day for the trainer bike!
