Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s a very soggy morning on the slopes of Mt. Hood. Timberline picked up 3.6” of rain in the last 24 hours, and Mt. Hood Meadows picked up an even 3”. That’s impressive, for sure. Light rain continues Saturday morning followed by snow late Saturday night and Sunday. Monday looks clear. Models disagree on Tuesday into Wednesday, with a prediction of warmer air but no consensus on the path of incoming moisture.

For Saturday, expect decreasing rain on the mountain, ending by noon. Sunshine hangs around until mid-evening followed by light snow after midnight. Snow level 6000′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ after midnight. Precip: 0.2” water value (WV) early, falling as rain or a rain-snow mix. 0.3” WV overnight, for 3-4” of dry snow. Wind will be WSW 35 early, WSW 20 in the afternoon, and SW 10 overnight.

Sunday brings light snowfall all day, downgraded from yesterday’s forecast of heavy snowfall. The snow level will be 2500′ in the morning, 500-1000′ midday, and 1500′ in the evening. Precip: 0.2” WV during the day, for 2-3” of powder. Another 0.1” WV falls in the afternoon for another inch of new snow. Wind will be SSW 5-10 early, variable through the evening, and N 20-30 overnight.

Monday looks clear and sunny for a wonderful day of groomers and a wonderful Rotary Night ($20 tickets) at Meadows. High clouds move in overnight. The free air freezing level will be 2000′ all day, dropping to 1000′ overnight. Wind will be N 20-30 early, NNW 20 in the afternoon, and W 25 overnight.

Models disagree on the path of incoming precipitation on Tuesday and Wednesday. The WRF-GFS brings in 0.5” Tuesday as snow followed by 0.9” Tuesday night as rain with another 0.5” rain on Wednesday. The Euro keeps the bulk of the moisture farther north, leading to less rain on Mt. Hood. That’s the best we can do for today! Happy turns!

Gorge Wind Forecast

For Saturday, we’ll start off with light east 5-10 in the west and W 5-10 east of The Dalles. Calm wind elsewhere. It appears the wind will turn to W 5ish everywhere in the afternoon with the exception of Viento to Mosier, which will be calm. Sunday starts with E 5-10 near Stevenson and E 10-15 near Rooster Rock. The wind picks up to 10-15 from Stevenson to Rooster Rock mid-morning and 15-20 in the afternoon from Viento to Rooster. Monday starts with W 5-10 and picks up to W 14-17 from Stevenson to Mosier in the afternoon with light wind farther east.

Road and Mountain Biking

It’s Saturday morning, and it’s quite wet out there. Best bet? Gym bike! Ha.. No, seriously, don’t ride the muddy trails or you’ll damage them. Even on your fat bike. Have some respect for the hard-working trailbuilders who volunteer their time to repair the messes you make, and don’t make messes.

Upcoming Events

There’s generally a trail run in Post Canyon on Saturday mornings at 8am. Today? Not sure. There’s a free bootcamp workout at Sorosis Park in The Dalles at 10am, and there’s free yoga at both Pure Yoga locations at 10:30am.
