Monday-Tuesday: sunshine, east wind and brown pow!

Thank you for using this forecast. I offer it freely so you can have more fun and plan your life. It does take significant time and energy to produce. If you find yourself using it often, or if you feel your life is more awesome because of my work, please make a donation. You can…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

If you like east wind, you’re a happy camper! You could even try an east wind downwinder this week; you’ll have plenty of options to fit it in to your schedule. As an added bonus, the wind will not fade to zero in the afternoon; it may drop about 10mph after 1pm, but you’ll still find plenty of wind for water play time.

For Monday, the easterlies will be in the 30-35 range near Rooster Rock, 25-30 range near Stevenson, and 15-20 near Viento. Morning temps will range from the low 30’s near Hood River to mid-40’s near Stevenson. Ditto those temps most days this week.

Tuesday’s wind looks like 35-40 near Rooster Rock and 20-25 near Cascade Locks and Viento. We’ll also have lighter east wind at 5-10 from Swell to Mosier. Wednesday maxes out at 25-30 near Rooster Rock, 20-25 near Stevenson, and 5-10 from Swell to Mosier. Thursday’s the one question this week. The current forecast is E 5-10 in the morning and W 13-16 in the afternoon. After Thursday, we’re back to east wind through Sunday, giving me the perfect opportunity to forecast every-other day!

BONUS: Jones Monday-Wednesday: nope. Sauvie’s Monday-Wednesday: nope. Coast (north/central/south). Monday: N5/5-10/5, NW swell 3′ at 12 seconds. Tuesday: E5/N5-10/N5, W 3′ @11. Wednesday: epic surfing weather. LTN/LTW/LTW, W 7′ @ 17.

Random Morning Thoughts

Mt. Hood Mountain Weather Forecast

The next several days look quite consistent on Mt. Hood: free air freezing level between 11,000′ and 12,000′ with variable wind to 10mph.

Gorge Weather Forecast

The weather forecast for the next week is clear, cold and sunny in the mornings and warm, sunny and awesome in the afternoon. For Monday, we’ll have temps right at freezing early and in the mid to upper 60’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Tuesday looks a little warmer: temps in the mid 30’s early and upper 60’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. Wednesday looks identical to Tuesday. Next chance of rain is in the middle of next week; the Euro is predicting that a large low pressure system will swing a cold front with a sub-tropical moisture tap through on Wednesday. Whether that forecast actually pans out remains to be seen.
