Gorge Wind Forecast
For Monday, you can expect east wind at 35-40 near Rooster 25-30 near Stevenson, and 20-25 near Viento. The wind will back off just a touch late in the afternoon, to 30ish near Rooster. Tuesday starts with easterlies at 30-35 near Rooster and 20-25 near Stevenson. The wind will fade quickly after 11am, turning to W 10-13 after 4pm and increasing overnight. Wednesday looks like 25-29 to start the day from Mosier to Arlington. Afternoon westerlies will be 29-33 east of Mosier. Hard to say what will happen near Hood River – probably gusty 21-26 with showers. Areas west of Hood River will be rainy on Wednesday, with gusty 18-22. Thursday starts off light and turns to west 20-23 in the afternoon with lots of rain.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m not really sure where this is going, but… Did any of you watch the Seahawks game on Sunday? Wow! Amazing!
Being one of those type A personalities, I find myself driven to accomplish things when I have free time. I suspect many of you out there are the same way – when you “do nothing”, you experience a slight sense of guilt. There’s always more to do, right?
When we do this, we keep our nervous systems on edge, just a little fired up. It’s important to let go and totally relax now and then. Guilt-free, yo! This might mean watching football or a movie. It might mean reading a book. It might mean lying in the sunshine and napping, which you should probably do today or tomorrow, because it’s going to be too cold for that soon!
Relaxing and letting go looks different for everyone, but the feeling is the same: a sense of losing yourself in whatever you’re doing and letting your worries slip away. This gives your nervous system a break, a reset, from the stress of daily life. So, find a way to relax, whatever that looks like for you, and make time in your life to do it fully. Have an awesome day. (and GO HAWKS!)
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but could be if you have Apple Health or can cash pay and come to Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Things are looking up if you like snow in the mountains. Things are also looking up if you like sub-freezing temps in the valleys, but you’ll have to read a different section of this forecast for that! For Monday, it’ll be sunny on Mt. Hood. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be around 11,000′ with temps at 5000′ between 35 and 40 all day. Wind will be E 35 all day.
Tuesday looks sunny. The FAF will be greater than 12,500′ all day. Temps at 5000′ will be near 45 in the morning and 55 in the afternoon. Wind will be NE 10 in the morning and NW 20 in the afternoon, increasing overnight.
Wednesday starts off clear and turns cloudy in the afternoon with light snowfall through midnight and heavy snow after midnight. The snow level will be 13,000′ early and 4000′ in the evening. We’ll see a couple inches of snow between 8pm and midnight, followed by another 4-6” between midnight and 4am Thursday. Wind Wednesday will be W 40 in the morning and W 30 in the afternoon.
Thursday’s a long ways out to be forecasting, especially as the forecast keeps changing. That said, we’re currently looking at a snow level of 4500′ or so with 2” of water value. That equates to 16-22” of new snow during the day on Thursday with very strong west wind. Abotu 6” more is forecast for Friday, after which the weather is going to turn very, very cold and dry (assuming the long-range forecast is correct).
Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s Monday as I write this, and it’s partly cloudy, probably due to a Nothing. Temps will be in the mid-40’s early and upper 50’s this afternoon with sunshine. East wind. No rainbows. Watch out for frosty roads tonight, especially in the freezing fog zone. Temps will be in the upper 20’s Tuesday morning and near 60 in the afternoon. East wind goes westerly late in the day. No rainbows. Wednesday looks partly cloudy with showers. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and mid to upper 50’s in the afternoon. Strong west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. The weekend and start of next week look very cold. Put your snow tires on.

White Sprinter Van of the Week
Road and Mountain Biking
There’s lots of good dirt out there. There are also a lot of trees down on Cook Meadows and High Prairie, and several trees down on Dog River. I don’t have a report for Fifteenmile or Gunsight, but if you want them, you’d better try before the snow level plummets later this week. Actually, you’ll want to get at all the riding before the pouring rain on Thursday! Oh, and there are lots of trails closed above 8-Track in Post Canyon.
Upcoming Events
There are just a couple more days of Gorge Happiness Month. As you think about your three gratitudes this morning, tell someone about one of them. That’ll make you happier!
Coming up today, there’s meditation at noon at Trinity Natural Medicine. There’s $5 Tai Chi at the Hood River Adult Center at 2:30. This evening at 6pm, there’s community yoga at Samadhi in White Salmon. At 6:30, there’s community yoga at the Mt. Hood Town Hall and community Zumba at St. Francis House in Odell. There’s YogaFaith (Christ-centered yoga) in The Dalles at 6:45pm. There’s community meditation at Bethel Congregational Church in White Salmon – Bingen at 7pm. On Tuesday night at 6:30, it’s the usual meditation with the monks from Pacific Hermitage at Yoga Samadhi. But this Tuesday is extra-special: Ajahn Geoff, a senior teacher in the tradition, will be leading the meditation and giving the talk. I highly recommend being there!
