9/21 forecast (sorry y’all but I did this the night before)

It’s another beautiful fall day in the Gorge, and fall means big easterlies in the western Gorge. There’s strong high pressure in the desert today and a heat low languidly lounging along the coast. Combine the two, and you’re looking at exuberant easterlies. You don’t even need to look at the gradients, webcams or sensor…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

It’s another beautiful fall day in the Gorge, and fall means big easterlies in the western Gorge. There’s strong high pressure in the desert today and a heat low languidly lounging along the coast. Combine the two, and you’re looking at exuberant easterlies. You don’t even need to look at the gradients, webcams or sensor readings this morning. Just toss the tiny gear in the car and start driving. 30+ is the call today, with 35+ possible at Rooster.

High pressure weakens just a bit tomorrow, but the east winds should still be in the 30+ range down at Rooster and Stevenson. If you decide to sail at Rooster, remember that it’s going to be close to 90 degrees, so you can take advantage of all that Rooster Rock has to offer. Just remember your sunscreen!

At this point, models are showing high pressure over the inland Northwest through Friday or so, with the easterlies weakening a bit each day.

In other news, there’s free tai chi and chi gong at Wilson park in Hood River tonight. Chi gong’s at 5:30 and tai Chi’s at 6:00. Also tonight is the hammerhead bike ride out of Mountain View cycles. If you think you’re fast enough to not get dropped, show up at the shop at 5pm.

Then on Tuesday, Wedensday and Thursday you can join Jeri and her semi-sadistic Crossfit cadets for free workouts at Children’s park. That’s the next three days at 6:30am and 5:30pm.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!

Twin Tunnels Road opened today. They haven’t blown it off so there’s some needle duff and rocks but it’s in fine shape besides that.

They chip sealed more of the Cooper Spur Road yesterday. It’s an ugly mess from Evans Creek Rd to within 1/2 a mile of the resort. They’ll probably keep going. Tarry, slippery, nasty……
