8/2 Forecast

We’re starting off with light east winds this morning. There’s a small chance we’ll see enough for kiting or windsurfing this morning for a couple of hours, so keep an eye on the free wind meter on the city of Stevenson’s website. Whatever we get isn’t going to last long. A front approaches the coast…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

A front approaches the coast this afternoon, making the wind switch direction. I think we’ll see 16-19 late today, just enough for you to beat the heat with a late-day session on the river.

Tomorrow looks a little more promising for wind. Models are all over the place with the timing, but the overall picture has a front pushing into the Northwest during the day. This generally makes the wind pretty gusty, but it’s hard to complain about solid west winds at the end of August. So… I think we’ll see 25-28 tomorrow by midday. One model, however, is suggesting we could see 30-35 late in the afternoon, so do throw your small gear in the car when you head out.

The weekend is looking windy, as a low pressure trough builds and shifts east.

In other news, today is the Post and Pint ride out of dirty fingers bike repair. Sure, it’s a little dusty up there, but Mitchell has plenty of cold beverages to rinse your dusty throat after the ride. Also tonight is the Hood River Triathlon. That’s a 500 meter swim, a 7 mile bike and a 2 mile run. Meet at 545 at the Event Site. Bonus points if you can figure out how to do both!

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
