Tuesday. A week of cold for the Gorge. A little snow for Hood.

DSC_1060-Edit-Edit
It’s overcast on Mt. Hood this morning, and it’s looking like we’ll see a little bit of snow during the day today with clear sky tonight. The snow level will be 5000′ during the day, falling to 3000′ overnight. It’s worth noting that the sounding model is predicting 5000′, temps at 6am were in the upper 20’s, but the 850mb model says the air will be warmer than that. Because of the discrepancy, I’m tossing in a chance of mixed precip for Mt. Hood today. That said, we’re expecting .1-.2” water value (WV). If that falls as snow, we’ll see 1-2” of new. Wind today will be S 20 early, backing off to S 10 in the afternoon. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Tomorrow starts off partly cloudy, turns cloudy midday, and sees some snow after noon. The snow level will be 3000′ in the morning, falling to 500′-2000′ midday, depending on the cold pool depth, and dropping to the surface after midnight. We’ll see .1-.2” WV between noon and 10pm, for 1-2” of new snow. Wind will be S 10 early, turning to SE 10 in the evening.

The snow level will be at the surface early, rising to as high as 1500′ in the afternoon before dropping back to the surface in the evening. No accumulation. Light and variable wind. Friday looks sunny. As of right now, models are calling for a dry, sunny weekend.

Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s nuking in the western Gorge this morning with iWind/iKite showing 48mph at Rooster Rock. That’s an indication, by the way, that it’s raining, not freezing raining there. If it were pouring freezing rain, the sensor would be iced up. Anyway, it’s 48 there and 32 at Steven’s Locks (where it is freezing rain, so that sensor must have superpowers). Expect east wind at 40-50 this morning and 35-40 this afternoon. Tomrorow looks like E 35-40 all day. Thursday: E 30-35. Friday: E 30-35. Saturday… you get the picture. There is no end to the easterlies in sight.

Random Morning Thoughts

Sometimes the best ideas arise from spontaneity and silliness. Take my website as an example. Back in the angry, sassy, self-righteous days of my youth, there came a frigid day of pouring rain. A friend turned to me and said, “Hey, what gym are you joining this winter?” I made a face, and said, “I’m not joining any f**king gym. The Gorge is my gym.”

And so it began…

A couple of weeks ago, I was posting weather alerts on my Facebook page, and a friend said, jokingly, “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service.” TATAS. Not very PC, I know. But it’s the only forecast that tells you exactly what time it’s going to dump freezing rain on your commute party. Very, very useful. Much like tatas.

Great ideas don’t arise when we go searching for them. Ideas are inspiration. Ideas are creativity. Ideas come from altered mind states (now, don’t y’all go taking a bunch of drugs – you can get into altered mind states without drugs). Ideas come when we drop our guard and are living in the flow of life.

But you gotta keep an eye out for those cool ideas. And when they come along, don’t poo-poo them. Grab them and run with them. You never know what might happen or how many lives you may touch, just by following through on what may seem silly in the moment. Silly can equal awesome. So, go with it! Have an awesome day!

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s a cloudy morning with temps in the upper 20’s. You don’t need to check the thermometer again today, because it’s going to stay right where it is now! We’ll see some light mixed precip today, most likely freezing rain, but possibly snow early, between 8am and 10pm, with the heaviest precip in the morning. .1-.2” accumulation. East wind. No rainbows.

Tomorrow starts out with the Nothing cloud. Temps will be in the mid 20’s early and right around 30 in the afternoon. The western Gorge will see a little freezing rain between noon and 4pm. The central Gorge will likely be dry. East wind. No rainbows.

Thursday looks cold, dry and cloudy with temps in the mid 20’s early and the low 30’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. Models seem to be converging on a dry weekend, rather than the earlier snowpocalypse, thank goodness.
