7/23 Gorge wind and events

Before you read on, please remember that this report (wind, snow and events!) is brought to you free of charge. Nobody pays me to do this unless you do! If the report saves you time, money, keeps you in the loop, or just helps you have more fun, please take the time to

make a donation. It’s not expensive, not like some other wind forecasting services. It’s accurate, unlike the free choices out there. So donate… Just $1/month ($12 minimum donation suggested) gets you on the mailing list and in the running for prizes. And your donation keeps the forecast coming almost every day. Donate, or someday this service won’t be here! Thank you for your support!

I do have some nice business sponsors who give away prizes for my email recipients, people who’ve donated. This week’s is Gor’Gelato. Gelato looks and tastes similar to ice cream, but has a much lower fat content and is also much denser. Your ice cream: full of air. Gelato: full of flavor. Gor’gelato is no 31 flavors; the flavor of the day depends on available fruit and gelato master Sonya’s whim when she wakes up. Yes, you heard right. The gelato is made fresh every morning. Now you want some, don’t you? Gor’gelato is located outdoors, in the Oak St. courtyard between Doppio, Cerulian wine and Zella Shoes. Look for the big green umbrella. David and Sonya, the husband-wife team, look forward to seeing you and sharing some delicious gelato with you. Open 11:30-7 or 8 or 9 daily.

Today’s wind news includes some good news for the United States Windsurfing National Championships (and for road bikers). The wind at Hood River today will start off at 10-15 (I have no idea where the 8am 25mph reading at the Hatchery came from – with a .06 gradient, I wouldn’t expect that to hold), slowly picking up to 15-18 midday and maybe as much as 17-20 this afternoon, with the strongest wind near Hood River today.

Tomorrow looks a bit lighter, with 13-15 in the morning, probably holding all day long. Wednesday looks really light, with 10-15 at best, but stronger west wind returns on Thursday. If you want more information about the Nationals, and what’s going on each day, you can check out USWindsurfing.org. It’s not just racing, you know. It’s racing of two types AND freestyle. Whoa.

In bike riding news, the Alternative Ride is finally on for the summer. Join Manbo at 6:30 at Mountain View Cycles for a casual ride to the Thirsty Woman in Mosier and back. Everyone’s welcome to join this ride, but there are three requirements: One, no spandex. Two, no clipless pedals, and three, you must have lights of some sort and a helmet. Okay, that’s four, but whatever. It’s fun either way.

Also tonight, with far less requirements, is the free Tai Chi practice at Wilson Park in Hood River at 6pm. Coming up tomorrow, if the weather permits, and it looks likely that it will, it’s the free ladies standup paddle night at the Big Winds shed at Hood River’s Event Site. Also tomorrow night, and also at the Event Site, it’s the Hood River Triathlon Club’s weekly workout of a 500 yard swim, 2 mile run and 7 mile bike ride.

Have an awesome day today!
