6/27/09 Party Forecast

Good monring gorge sports fanatics and happy weekend! My what a busy day we have today! It’s not windy this morning, and there’s only a 20% chance or so of 17-21 late this afternoon in the corridor. So, it’s on to everything else. First, at 8:30, meet at 10 speed coffee for the Dirty Fingers…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good monring gorge sports fanatics and happy weekend!

My what a busy day we have today! It’s not windy this morning, and there’s only a 20% chance or so of 17-21 late this afternoon in the corridor. So, it’s on to everything else. First, at 8:30, meet at 10 speed coffee for the Dirty Fingers Ladyfinger, ladies only ride.

For your all day entertainment, come watch the Hood River Super D, Downhill bike race in Post Canyon, or… check out Windfest at the Hood River Event Site, for free windsurf lessons and $5 demos, including stand=up paddle, or there’s Blues, Brews and Barbeque, a music fest, in Stevenson. And finally, at 2:00 today, at the Mosier School, is Interesting Mosier, where a lot of interesting people give very short talks on very interesting subjects. Wow… how am I ever going to do all of those and still stay rested for tomorrow’s wind.

Oh, and don’t forget the Dirty Finger/10 Speed/HR Super D afterparty at Dirty Fingers starting at 4pm and continuing until ???? tonight. Free beer, free footlongs, free f-ing awesome party!

Clouds crowd into Portland tonight, bringing wind. Tomorrow stars with low twenties in the corridor. With strong high pressure off the coast, winds build quickly into the 26-30 range. It’ll be a good day for lessons and demos at Windfest. Kiters, a friendly reminder: it’s a $1000 ticket at the Lyle sandbar. It’s very sad, but very true.

Finally, it’s ripping at the central coast and it’s going to stay that way for the next four days. Today’s swell is small at 4 feet, but tomorrow brings 8 and Monday brings 9.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
