6/12 Gorge wind and events and… rain

Good morning, Pine Street Bakery now open! You really don’t want to look at Pine Street Bakery’s Facebook page. Why not? Because you’ll get up from your computer before you finish reading this forecast, and you’ll buy something utterly delicious. Something full of butter. Something full of flavor. Something made with love. Really. Megan Davis…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good morning,

Pine Street Bakery now open! You really don’t want to look at Pine Street Bakery’s Facebook page. Why not? We’ll be giving away cookies on the email report… once she’s not completely slammed with opening. Go easy on her today, okay?

Hey, where did the rain come from? I woke up at 4:45, and it was lovely outside. Just a few clouds, a nice sunrise… and now it’s pouring? Well… I did water my garden last night, so of course it’s raining today!

Despite this momentary blip in the weather, it’s still going to be windy today. The gradient is .09 from Portland to The Dalles this morning, and that’s got the raindrops blowing sideways in the upper teens to mid-twenties on the river. It’s hard to tell where the clouds will stop, so let’s call it 15-18 under the clouds today, building to 23-26 early afternoon east of the clouds and 26-30 late in the afternoon from Maryhill to Arlington. Once this morning rain clears out, high pressure builds in, so the wind direction should be good today.

Wednesday starts off strong, with west wind at 23-26 east of the low clouds. By afternoon, the wind will pick up to 28-32 or a bit more from Hood River all the way east to Arlington. Strongest wind should be in the noon-2pm time period. High pressure off the coast will keep the west wind going strong through midday Thursday.

For events tonight, there’s the Hood River Triathlon Club’s Tuesday workout tonight, where you can get your swim, run and bike on at the east end of Hood River’s Event Site. Also tonight, it’s opening evening for the ladies standup paddle club. Girls, come on over to Big Winds from 5:30-7pm for snacks, drinks, and raffles. Sorry boys, but you’re going to have to go to the triathlon club, ‘cuz this one’s for girls only.

Heads up for next weekend, when White Salmon hosts two great events. First is the White Salmon Backyard half marathon, free and open to everyone. All donations to this event benefit the White Salmon High School Cross-Country Team. After the Backyard Half, head to Rheingarten Park for a pig roast fundraiser benefiting the White Salmon Pool. The pig roast is brought to you by Henni’s restaurant in White Salmon. Eat pig. Keep the pool open.

Have an awesome day today!
