5/8 Gorge wind, dirt, water, food, and… Ok. I made all that up. It’s just a wind and events report, like usual.

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

This morning’s amusing ad:

The Canfield Brothers Yelli Screamy
Really Temira, seriously? You’re advertising a bike? A random bike we’ve never heard of? A freakin’ hardtail? Yes, I am, and I’m doing it because I love this bike. So does Jason Wells, who built GP for you. This bike is the Post Canyon destroyer. Slack head tube for descending.29″ wheels for rolling over stuff. Very, very, very short chainstays for fast responding bike action that’ll make you giggle. And yell. And scream. I slay the Gorge on this bike. You should too.Contact sean@canfieldbrothers.com for more info. We’ll have a demo day in late June. Stay tuned.

Today’s the busy day of the week. Coming up after work tonight, there’s the women’s mountain bike ride, the Post and Pinot, leaving Dirty Fingers at 5:30. If you want to make some new riding partners, this is a great way – they’ve had around 2 dozen gals each week. There were almost three dozen one week, and – I’m a girl, in case you didn’t know – it was full-on estrogen overload. Also tonight, there’s sailboat racing at the Hood River marina, with races starting at 6:30. If you like rugby, there’s pickup touch rugby at Henkle Middle School in White Salmon at 3:30. Tomorrow night is the Post n’ Pint, your chance to hammer as hard as you can, and still get dropped. Join me at the back of the pack, yippee!

In wind news, we’ll see west wind at 24-27 this morning from the Hatchery to Hood River. The wind, much like it did yesterday, will slowly back off to 21-23 this afternoon, filling in at Stevenson and Rowena at some point early afternoon. Tomorrow we’ll see westerlies at 21-24 early (possibly stronger at down), quickly fading to 10-15 and then fading further to light wind. Friday looks light.

For those of you already looking ahead to the weekend, the Northwest Trails Alliance and the Dimwits with Brite Lights are putting on a party at the EasyCLIMB trail on Saturday. It’s family-friendly bike riding fun, and if you’re thinking of doing the Short Track race series, this is your chance to check out the trail. The fun starts at 5pm – bring hot dogs, marshmallows and s’mores fixings for the bonfire.

Also this weekend, there’s sailboat racing in Cascade Locks on Saturday and Sunday, there’s a 3k/5k/12k running race benefiting the Mosier school on Sunday morning at 9am.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
