5/25 Gorge wind, gorge rain, and the PROM, dang it. The PROM.

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

This morning’s amusing ad:

The Canfield Brothers Yelli Screamy
Really Temira, seriously? You’re advertising a bike? A random bike we’ve never heard of? A freakin’ hardtail? Yes, I am, and I’m doing it because I love this bike. So does Jason Wells, who built GP for you. This bike is the Post Canyon destroyer. Slack head tube for descending.29″ wheels for rolling over stuff. Very, very, very short chainstays for fast responding bike action that’ll make you giggle. And yell. And scream. I slay the Gorge on this bike. You should too.Contact [email protected] for more info. We’ll have a demo day in late June. Stay tuned.

We’re out of the rain zone this morning, for once, so go out and enjoy the sunshine. Clouds will return late in the afternoon, and rain showers will likely start around 8pm. It’s going to pour rain tonight, with probably .3-.5” rain overnight. Showers continue tomorrow morning, we’ll see a break Monday morning, and then another round of heavy rain returns Monday night.

Why am I telling you this? Well, you want to get out and play when it’s not-rainy, right? Especially if you’re an Enduro racer (good luck JJ, Heather, Steph, Andy, Andrew, etc., etc,. Etc…) – except if you’re an Enduro racer, you don’t have a choice when you get to play. So, be safe out there.

If you want to ride today, stay away from Post unless you want to watch the race (it’s up on 170 and other upper trails today). Whoopdee is riding really nice right now (thanks, Steve Dunn, SDS, Crestline, and HRATS). So is the EasyCLIMB in Cascade Locks, but if you want to ride that, take some friends and chase each other around, because that trail is more fun at high speed.

For you wind sport junkies, there’s not all that much going on this weekend.

We’ll see very light wind this morning. As a rainy front pushes in off the coast this afternoon, the wind will pick up to 15-18, maybe 17-21, first at Stevenson, then at Hood River, and then all the way to Arlington. It will be gusty. Tomorrow looks very similar, as another weather system approaches: very light wind early, picking up to gusty 15-18 early afternoon and gusty 22-25 late in the day. Monday is another repeat: light wind early and gusty 15-18 late. Harder/better/faster wind returns for Wednesday and Thursday.

In other news: There’s pickup touch rugby tomorrow at 3pm at the Mosier School, and there’s pickup Ultimate Frisbee at 4pm at the Hood River Marina. Speaking of Ultimate, sign up for the summer league here: http://gorgeultimate.leagueapps.com/leagues.

And finally, tonight is the freakin’ prom at Dirty Fingers. Starts at 5pm. Yeah, that probably means 6pm. It’s going to be a great party, so dress up and show up!

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
