5/22 Gorge wind and rain and events and Mt. Hood snow

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

This morning’s amusing ad:

The Canfield Brothers Yelli Screamy
Really Temira, seriously? You’re advertising a bike? A random bike we’ve never heard of? A freakin’ hardtail? Yes, I am, and I’m doing it because I love this bike. So does Jason Wells, who built GP for you. This bike is the Post Canyon destroyer. Slack head tube for descending.29″ wheels for rolling over stuff. Very, very, very short chainstays for fast responding bike action that’ll make you giggle. And yell. And scream. I slay the Gorge on this bike. You should too.Contact [email protected] for more info. We’ll have a demo day in late June. Stay tuned.

We’ll see some showers during the day today, but heavier rain will move in after 2. Same goes for tomorrow, with showers early and heavier rain after 2. Your garden will be happy. More interesting is the new snow in the mountains – Timberline has 8” of new this morning, so go ski if that’s your thing. The snow level will stay around 3000′ today, but will rise to 6500′ tomorrow before dropping back to 5000′ on Friday.

In wind news, yesterday’s predicted 3-hour wind burst was compressed into one hour of 30-50 in the desert. No, I didn’t make it. I was more interested in riding my bike in 47 degree pouring rain in Post Canyon (it was an accident, I swear!) Speaking of mountain biking, I can almost guarantee it’s too muddy to ride in Post right now – it was drenched (and so was I) when I made it out yesterday evening. Post and Pinot will likely be canceled tonight – call Dirty Fingers to check before showing up for the girl ride.

Anyway, the wind forecast: we’ll see west wind at 10-15 in the whole Gorge today with a burst of stronger wind from Stevenson to The Dalles later. Maybe gusty 22-25 between noon and 3pm?. As low pressure moves off the coast after that, the wind will back off. Tomorrow brings light wind, likely light east early and light west late. This same weather pattern – low pressure off the coast messing with the Gorge wind – will continue through Saturday.

If you’re a mountain biker, you have a lot going on: This weekend is the Enduro race in Post Canyon. Check with the Hood River Area Trail Stewards Facebook Page for which trails will be closed. If you’re prepping for the race, you gals can ride the Post and Pinot tonight, weather permitting. Tomorrow night, Dirty Fingers has a shuttle to preview the course. Then on Saturday, it’s the mountain biker prom at the shop, in celebration of the race, starting at 5pm. All people are invited to the prom. No date required. Go stag. Stagger home.

In other news, there’s pickup touch rugby tonight at 3:30 at Henkle Middle School and sailboat racing at 6pm at the Hood River Marina.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
