Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good morning,

We have an ideal setup for Gorge wind over the next few days. I mean really ideal. High pressure over the eastern Pacific, a trough along the coast, hot weather/low pressure in the desert. Oh yeah. See… ENSO-neutral years are the s**t!

We’ll see west wind at 24-27 from Hood River to Mosier this morning, probably rising to 28-32 midday, becoming 23-26 from Hood River east to Arlington this afternoon. Wednesday looks very windy too in the central Gorge (although latest runs are shifting the afternoon wind to Maryhill and Arlington), and Thursday looks like another very windy day, with the strongest wind shifting east of The Dalles. Friday starts off windy, but high pressure shifting inland during the day limits the wind. So, three days of upper twenties. I’ll take it!

One nice thing the westerlies will do is cool us off from yesterday’s 94 degree high temp, unofficially tying the record for May 14th. The official temp in HR yesterday was 91, not a record, but I prefer the Hood River Weather website temps.

In events today, there’s the Hood River County trails meeting, a great place to learn about the county’s trail plans, minus the speculation you find in the forums and out on the street. I learn something new every time, and high recommend attending. 4pm at 601 State in Hood River. Also tonight, it’s Hood River Triathlon practice night at the Event Site at 6pm. Everyone’s welcome, even if you’re brand new to Tri.

Tomorrow night’s highlight is ranger Jimmy T’s presentation on the history of local trails at Dog River at 7pm. Before that, you might have time to squeeze in a run down the White Salmon with shop paddle, a ride through Post on the Post and Pinot from Dirty Fingers, or maybe some sailboat racing at the Hood River Marina.

Have an awesome day today!
