Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

It’s yet another beautiful day in the Gorge today. We’ll see a few low clouds in the western Gorge, but other than that, it’s going to be sunny. For wind, we’ll start with westerlies at 5-10 or maybe 10-15, but this whole marine push/incoming system has been delay. So much for our big day – we’ll see gusty 23-26 through the whole Gorge late this afternoon. No big nuker day. Temps today will be in the mid 40’s early and low 70’s this afternoon.

Tomorrow starts with light west wind, less than 10 mph, building to west at 18-23 in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and low 70’s late. On Saturday and Sunday, we’ll see westerlies in the mid-twenties. Temps on Saturday will be in the low 50’s early and upper 60’s late. Next chance of frost is Monday night…

Coming up tonight, at 5:30, Dirty Fingers hosts the Post and Pint mountain bike ride. Complete the 2 hour ride and you’ll earn a free pint of beer. In trail news, it’s starting to get a little dusty, so get out and get it now. If you want to build trails, there are two work parties coming up: The Spokes Club is at the White Salmon bike park at 9am on Saturday and WTA has work parties at Syncline both Saturday and Sunday at 8:30. Next chance of trail-improving rain: Monday.

For those of you who haven’t forgotten about skiing, here’s the forecast for Mt. Hood: Today: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Freezing level 11,000′. NW wind at 20-30, dropping to NW 15-25 late in the afternoon. Friday: Sunny. Freezing level 11,000′. NW wind at 10-20 early and W 20-25 after noon.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, probably becoming high overcast. Freezing level 12,000′. Wind WSW 25 early and W 30-40 in the afternoon. Sunday: partly cloudy with low clouds and possible flurries. Snow level 5500′ early, 4500′ midday, rising to 10,000 in the afternoon under clear sky. Wind WNW 20-30 early, 15-25 midday and 25-35 late in the afternoon.

Have an awesome day today!
