Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good morning!

With the temp already falling below freezing at 6600 and the temp at 5250′ at 32° right now, it looks like we’re going to sneak by with a snowstorm today instead of a wet day. We’re also going to be spared the absolute worst of the wind. If it makes you feel better, Crystal has already put their upper mountain on wind standby and is discounting tickets. The wind will get us today, but things could be a lot worse. SW wind at 20-30 this morning builds to SSW 40-50 by midday, going to SW 45-55 by 4pm and decreasing to SW 30-40 overnight. Like I said, it could be worse. Could be NW wind. The snow level was supposed to be around 6500 this morning, but it’s already down around 5000′, so let’s call it 5000′ today, going to 4000′ overnight and falling to 2000′ by tomorrow morning. We’ll see light to moderate precipitation until 4pm, becoming heavy between 7pm and 1am, going back to flurries until 7am. Total snowfall between this morning and 4am tomorrow will be 10-13″ up high and 6-8″ down low, mostly falling overnight, with a total water value of 1-1.5″.

Tomorrow looks awesome if you like skiing in fresh snow, and who doesn’t? The snow level will hover between 2000′ and 3000′ during the day, falling to 1500′ by Wednesday morning. Snowfall will be light before 7am, becoming heavy between 7am and 1pm (sorry parking crew), becoming moderate between 1pm and 4am Wednesday. Total water value will be .75″ to 1.25″ for total new snow of 9-13″, mostly falling during the day. Winds tomorrow will be S 20-30 in the morning, SW 30-45 midday and SW 35-45 late afternoon.

The snow continues Wednesday, with the snow level at 1500′ in the morning, falling to 500-1000′ in the afternoon. Snowfall will be light in the morning, becoming moderate in the afternoon and evening. Total snowfall on Wednesday will be 4-5″, with water value of .3-.5″. Winds on Wednesday will be SW 15-20 in the morning becoming W 25-30 midday, dropping to W 20-25 in the evening.

Snow continues on Thursday… =) =) =)

Have a great day.
