Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Good morning!

You know you’re having a rough morning when you’re two-fisting Rockstar and French press coffee….

Today looks sunny on Mt. Hood to start, with clouds moving in around 4pm and snow starting sometime around 7pm. We’ll see about .3” water value before the snow stops at 4am, for ~.3” water value. It might be light and fluffy enough to give us 4-5”, but don’t count on it. 3” seems more likely. The snow level will be <1000’ all day, even in the Gorge, where we’ll see some snow flurries tonight, with .5”-1” of accumulation. Wind on Mt. Hood today will be W 5-10 early, picking up to W 15-25 around 4pm. Tomorrow starts off partly cloudy, quickly becoming clear on Mt. Hood. The freezing level will be <1000’ early, with temps rising to around 30° in the afternoon and the freezing level bumping up to 6500’ in a building inversion by 10pm. Wind will be NW 10-20 early, backing off to NW 5-10 late. Sunday looks sunny and warm, with the freezing level at 8000’ early, rising to 10000’ by 4pm with a big, strong inversion keeping lower elevations cold. Wind will be W 5-10 early, rising to SW 15-20 by 4pm. Monday looks warm and clear to start, becoming cloudy late with some sort of light, possibly mixed, precipitation overnight. Tuesday looks dry, but after that, models run the gamut of possibilities, meaning I can’t give you a forecast beyond Tuesday. At least I don’t even try. =) Coming up in the next 72 hours: Dimwits night mountain biking at the Cascade Locks EasyCLIMB trail at 6:30 tonight, 10k Nordic Race at Meadows tomorrow, Hood River Weather chatroom Capricorn Party tomorrow at 4:30 at Everybody’s, free acupuncture all day at Gorge Community Acupuncture tomorrow, Teacup Nordic Tea Party on Sunday morning and Temira’s b-day, all day Sunday.

Have a great day today!

Temira
