Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good morning!

It does look like the precip’s done for today on Mt. Hood, with cloudy skies becoming partly cloudy. The freezing level was around 5000’ at 5am, and will rise to 10000’ by 4pm. Wind will be SW 15-20, rising to SW 30-35 late in the afternoon.

Tomorrow starts off clear, with an inversion building over the lowlands and clouds moving in around 4pm. The freezing level will be 10,000’+ in the morning, falling to 6500’ by 10pm and 5000’ by 1pm. It will start raining on Mt. Hood around 7pm, with .3” or so before the rain switches to snow around 1am. Wind will be SW 25-30 early, rising to SW 35-45 in the afternoon and SW 40-50 overnight.

That rain switches to snow early Thursday morning, for 3-4” by 7am and another 2” during the day in orographic snow flurries. The snow level will be 4000’ at 4am, falling to 1500’ by 7am and 500’ or so by 4pm. Winds will be WSW 40-45 early, becoming W 40-45 by 7am, WNW 30-40 at 10am and NW 20-25 around 4pm.

Friday looks clear and cold with the freezing level around 500’ in the morning, rising to 5000’ with temperatures hovering just around freezing. Winds will be NW 10-15 in the morning going to W 15-20 in the afternoon.

At this point, the weekend is looking sunny on Mt. Hood. Coming up this weekend, there’s free acupuncture at Gorge Community Acupuncture on Saturday. On Sunday, Teacup Nordic has the annual Teacup Tea Party (not to be confused with the political Tea Party – this event is not funded by the Koch brothers). Also on Sunday, it’s my birthday. Very important stuff.

Have a great day today!
