Good morning. Yes, the gradient is at .13 and itโs windy at Stevenson. No, you may not go windsurfing or kiting. Itโs freezing out there. 6 degrees in Hood River right now.
Up on the mountain, itโs 9 at the base and 15 up top. Compared to the valleys, thatโs balmy, so you might as well go skiing. I went to Meadows yesterday to check out the conditions for todayโs snow report. I expected a horrid mix of ice, blue ice, and hardpack. I was pleasantly surprised. The groom is in perfect shape, as good as Iโve ever seen, with no ice to be found (and I looked). Bill Kline emailed me last night to tell me the same thing. Seriously, I was blown away by how good it is up there. So, I suggest you put some cold wax on your skis or snowboard and head to your favorite ski slope. Don't trust me? Well, trust this: it's horrid off the groom. Awful. But on the groom, it's epic. Believe me now?
The parks are in good shape too, and the Superpipe at Meadows is superfun.
I havenโt been on my mountain bike in a few days, because Iโm a cold weather wimp. However, Iโm going to suggest you ride Post now if you donโt want to wait until spring. Thereโs a good chance weโll see snow or freezing rain in the Gorge on Saturday. If we donโt, the following thaw will turn the hard-frozen trails into mush until the weather either dries out or freezes again. So, bundle up and hit Post today and tomorrow.
Back to the mountain, it looks like weโll see snow starting late Friday, and continuing through Tuesday, assuming it doesnโt warm up too much up there. There is a slight chance of that, but at this point, Iโm thinking weโre about to get a couple feet of new snow. But seriously, donโt wait for the powโฆ go get the groom now. I had so much fun up there yesterdayโฆ.
Have a great day today!
