10/12 forecast

Good morning! I dropped my French Press last night, and am now suffering from a coffee-free morning. For an appliance designed to make such a strong beverage, a French Press is fragile. Do they make them in stainless steel? If you’re looking to get on the water, you can continue your streak of east wind…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good morning!

If you’re looking to get on the water, you can continue your streak of east wind sessions today and tomorrow. 20-25 looks like the call today, and the early morning cams and sensors suggest that Rooster is getting the stronger wind this morning.

There’s rain headed our way tomorrow, but that might start off as a brief spurt of freezing rain or snow in the central Gorge early in the wee hours, before the sun warms us above freezing. We’re also going to get a bonus day of east wind sailing, as a powerful low pressure system off the coast keeps sucking wind through the Gorge.

Wednesday brings gusty west winds in the eastern Gorge.

In other news, there are free Crossfit workouts all week long at Children’s park. Check out crossfithoodriver.com for more information. Coming up this weekend is Harvest Fest. If you’d like to do a good deed, volunteer some time at the senior center to help make pies for sale at Harvest Fest. That’s Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the senior center. Contact Kyra at 386-2060 to volunteer.

Other than that… I’m looking forward to a little rain tomorrow to settle the dust on the bike trails.

I’m going to look for a new French Press now.

And some coffee.

Have a great day!
