Gorge Wind Forecast (and Sauvie’s, Jones, the Coast…)

We have another light wind start to the day out on the Columbia, and that light wind will continue until early afternoon. As of 6am, if you were curious, gradients were quite weak: just .02 (pdx-dls) and .03 (dls-psc) Around 2pm, an approaching warm front will kick the wind up to gusty 13-16 from Swell eastward with gusty 10-13 from Steven’s Locks to Viento.

Tomorrow starts off with W 7-11 and picks up to W 16-19, maybe a touch more, in the afternoon from Hood River all the way to Arlington. Expect W 5-10 on Wednesday morning. As a trough of low pressure moves eastward, the wind will pick up to gusty 23-26 from Lyle to Arlington with gusty 13-16 from Stevenson to Hood River.

Not much to say here today, but don’t be surprised to see a bunch of new snow above 8000’ on the volcanoes the next time they peek out of the clouds!

Random Morning Thoughts

DSC_0429-Edit
I don’t have a reflection to share this morning, so instead I’ll share a dream. Last night I dreamed I was in Ohio. Wildfire smoke filled the air, limiting the visibility. I was walking around a blue lake with my mother. I knew the lake was polluted, so instead of wading or swimming, I reached in to check the temp. It was warm. My mother jumped in the lake for a swim, proclaiming that it was cold.

I was baffled, and walked away. As I continued my walk, I noticed people ice skating on the lake. Turns out they were wearing ice skates that froze the water as they traveled, allowing them to ice skate even if the lakes were still liquid. I was enthralled watching the water freeze into little ripples in front of the skaters. I watched this for a while.

That was cool, but not all that surprising to me. I kept walking. At the north end of the lake, there was a gym. At this point, by the way, the smoke lifted from the air, leaving me surrounded by blue sky and sunshine. There were a lot of people at this semi-open-air gym. They were playing racquetball and taking showers in dingy locker rooms with curtains over the toilet stall entrances. I kept looking for a toilet I could use, but there weren’t any that allowed me privacy. I woke up at this point, ‘cuz I had to pee.

There you go. That’s a pretty random RMT. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s mostly cloudy out there right now, and with a forecast of a warm front moving in today, the clouds will likely continue with just a slight chance of showers. Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 1% chance of rainbows.

Tomorrow looks partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of showers after 5pm. Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 1% chance of rainbows. Wednesday looks cloudy with a chance of showers. Temps will be in the mid 50’s early and the low 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, moderate wind in the afternoon, 42% chance of rainbows.

There’s fresh snow on the volcanoes today, but the snow level will be above 10,000′ for the next two days. On Wednesday, the snow level drops to 6500′ with a trace to 2” of new snow at 6500′.

Road and Mountain Biking

TACKALERT!!! I went for a ride in Post Canyon yesterday afternoon, and it was PERFECT. Well, perfect until it rained – those Mitchell Ridge berms are slick during a downpour! Anyway, the dirt is AMAZEBALLS. In case you were wondering, it took .4” of rain to make that happen.

Now, if Post is OFF-THE-CHARTS, so is the 44 Road. And Falls Creek. And Lewis River. And Plains of Abraham. And… you get the picture. We had enough rain to make everything awesome. I don’t like to “should” people, but you should go mountain biking today.

Road biking: huh? The dirt’s too good for pavement today!
