Gorge Wind Forecast

Warm and dry weather sticks around through the weekend, and that’s joined by a whole gamut of wind opportunities. None of those look particularly strong, but at least three days have the potential to get you on the river. There’s a chance of a stronger day on Monday or Tuesday, but models are far from agreeing on this today. Maybe tomorrow?

Wednesday kicks off with pressures of 30.14/30.10/30.09 for gradients of 0.04 and 0.01. Models suggest the wind will fade, so if you want it, you’d better get it. There’s not much, but dawn patrol westerlies were 15-18mph near Viento and less than 5mph everywhere else. That 15-18 could spread from Viento to the Stevenson-Swell stretch for a couple hours this morning, but don’t count on it. After 11am or so, the wind drops to 10-13, and then it drops to light-and-variable for the afternoon. River flow readings are 64-66kcfs, river temp is 66F, and high temp forecast is 82F.

Thursday turns the wind around. You’ll find easterlies at 20-25 from Rooster to Viento for a few hours in the morning. The wind drops to 15-20 after 11am. Afternoon westerlies fall to 15mph near Rooster and 10-15mph from Stevenson to Viento. High temp: 84F.

Not much happens Friday: easterlies at 15mph near Viento and Stevenson for the morning with light and variable wind all day at Rooster Rock. Saturday: light and variable everywhere. Sunday: lots of variety in the forecasts, but the deterministic GFS has the Corridor with 21-24mph westerlies. Cross your fingers for that outcome; about 30% of the ensembles have wind on Sunday and the rest do not. Looking deeper into the future, we have a giant spread in predictions for Monday and Tuesday but at least a chance for some wind. We’ll keep an eye on it. Have a great day!
