Gorge Wind Forecast
Today’s models are predicting a nice day of west wind on the Columbia. At 5am, gradients were .09 (pdx-dls) and .06 (dls-psc). Expect those gradients and the wind to pick up as the day goes on. In the western Gorge, under the clouds, we’ll have gusty 20-23. East of the low clouds, probably from Rowena to Boardman, we’ll have 28-32 after noon. River water temp is 45 degrees. High for Arlington today is 57 degrees. River flow at The Dalles is 180kcfs. Perfect for Maryhill, should the direction be right there.
Monday starts out with W 10-13 everywhere. The westerlies will back off east of Maryhill after noon. The opposite will happen in the western Gorge, with 24-28 from Stevenson to Doug’s in the afternoon. It’s possible there will be periods of 28-32 on Monday afternoon. Tuesday looks like W 10-13 early, fading by midday, and switching to E 10 everywhere in the afternoon.

Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s partly to mostly cloudy here in Hood River this morning, and will stay that way today. Expect scattered showers this morning and a few more showers this afternoon. Upper valleys may see a few snow flurries this evening and overnight. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Strong west wind. 99% chance of rainbows.
Monday brings partly cloudy sky with scattered sprinkles that decrease in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. We may see some frost above 500′, but that will depend on the cloud cover. As of right now, it looks a bit too cloudy to support frost, but the upper valleys will likely see below-freezing weather. Anyway, expect moderate west wind early on Monday and strong west wind Monday afternoon. 26% chance of rainbows.
Tuesday looks dry and sunny. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. In an interesting twist, the sounding model predicts a freezing level of 5000′ on Tuesday morning, so no frost, but clear sky may change that… Anyway, light west wind Tuesday and no rainbows. By the middle part of the week, we’ll be seeing highs approaching 70. Sweet!

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
We had very little rain yesterday, very little rain last night, and we’ve had very little rain today. So… maybe Post is good to go. 6:50am update: never mind. It’s pouring in Hood River now. Post will be too muddy to ride. Syncline is going to be very windy today. Hospital Hill is open, but the cows are out. That means NO DOGS. No, really. No dogs are allowed on Hospital per the landowners’ wishes. If you choose to take your dog there, you are risking access for everyone. So, please, take your dog elsewhere until the cows are gone (early July). Road bikers, today looks very windy, as does Monday. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday look awesome for road biking. In other bike news, the Gorge Roubaix race the weekend of April 3rd is still looking for volunteers. Sign up and help keep a good thing going.
