Wednesday.

Rainbow2
The mountain is starting out the day under high overcast sky, and will stay that way as a warm front impacts the region. A few flurries may fall during the day, but don’t count on it. Heavier precip picks up after 5pm, continuing through Thursday morning. Unfortunately, the snow level today will start at 2000′ and rise to 6000′ when the precip hits, fluctuating a bit between 5000′ and 6500′ while it’s precipitating, but not dropping to a more reasonable level (4500′) until after midnight when the precip’s mostly going to be done. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

So… Expect .6-.9” water value tonight, with perhaps 2-3” of very wet snow mixed with rain at 5000′ and more snow higher up. Wind today will be W 20 early, becoming WSW 20 -25 in the afternoon and SW 35 in the evening and WSW 50 after midnight.

Looks like we’ll see orographic snow flurries during the day Thursday followed by heavier snow Thursday night. We’ll see no real accumulation during the day, followed by .5-.7” WV between 5pm Thursday and 5am Friday. Wind will be pretty wicked all day: WSW 50 in the morning with W 35-40 in the afternoon and evening.

Gorge Wind Forecast

We’re starting off Wednesday with westerlies at 10-13 through the whole entire Gorge, and that will continue for most of the day, with a bit of an early afternoon lull possible. Thursday still looks Classic. Expect Dawn Patrol at 22-25 from Swell all the way to Arlington with 24-28 pretty much everywhere pretty much all day long. Stevenson and Viento may remain under the clouds, in which case the wind will be less strong and much more gusty in those locations. Friday looks like 7-11 early and 10-13 for the rest of the day. Saturday looks light and variable and Sunday looks like 24-28+.

Gorge Weather Forecast

I woke up late enough this morning that I could see the sky without going outside. It’s cloudy. To be honest, it looks much more like Nothing than clouds. Looking at resort webcams, this does appear true, although there’s a layer of high clouds over the Nothing too. Anyway, nowcasting isn’t going to help us plan our days, so let’s get on with a forecast.

Expect clouds all day long as a warm front arrives, followed by a cold front. Rain starts up around 9pm, continuing overnight. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Thursday brings partly cloudy sky and on-and-off sprinkles until 6pm, when rain starts up. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Strong west wind. 98% chance of rainbows. Friday may have a few sprinkles for the first few hours, but will be dry and sunny for most of the day. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 21% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

Although I didn’t ride Post yesterday, I suspect it’s going to be decent by this afternoon. Syncline and Hospital, of course, will be awesome. Looks like we’re going to see just light west wind today, so riding your road bike will be an option today too. The next best day for road biking is Friday, with light wind and sunshine. In other bike news, the Gorge Roubaix race the weekend of April 3rd is still looking for volunteers. Sign up and help keep a good thing going.

Upcoming Events

Happy Wednesday. There’s community meditation at 8:15 this morning at Flow Yoga. At 8:30, there’s a community Hatha Yoga class at the Heartgate Sanctuary in Oak Grove. There’s ping pong this evening at 5pm at the Hood River Armory, and there’s Aikido at 6pm at Trinity Natural Medicine in Hood River. Coming up Thursday, I have therapy at 10:15. I know, you want to come with me, but you can’t. On Thursday evening, there’s community yoga at Samadhi at 6pm, Tai Chi at Our Savior Church in Bingen at 6:30pm, and Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30pm.

Have an awesome day today!
