Monday. Snow, rain, thunder and rainbows.

BobRrainbow
In yesterday’s forecast, I was thinking we’d see 4-5” of new snow today. Given the actual path of the storm track, now I’m not so certain – most of the moisture so far has been staying to the west of Mt. Hood. It’ll still be snowy today, but just not as much. The snow level will be around 5000′ this morning, dropping to 4500′ in the early evening and 2500′ late in the evening. We’ll see .2-.3” water value (WV) between this morning and 5pm, for 2-3” of new snow. We’ll see another trace overnight. Wind today will be SW 15-20 all day. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Tuesday looks partly cloudy with occasional flurries in the morning. Heavier snowfall is possible in convective showers in the afternoon. Thunder and lightning are also possible, although not super likely. The snow level will be 2000′ early and 4000′ in the afternoon, dropping to 1500′ after dark. No real accumulation, unless something unexpected happens in the convective showers. Wind will be W 30 for much of the day, turning to WNW 30 in the evening.

Gorge Wind Forecast

There’s a light easterly breeze on this Monday morning, just 10-13 at Rooster and less at Stevenson. That light breeze will fade away to nothing midday, and pick up to gusty W 22-25 after 5pm from Hood River to Maryhill. Tuesday actually looks pretty decent, with offshore high pressure driving relatively steady west wind. We’ll see W 10-13 from Swell to The Dalles to start, picking up to 25-29 in the afternoon from Swell to Arlington. River flow at The Dalles is right around 150kcfs these days, meaning Maryhill shouldn’t been blown out with current. Coming up Wednesday, we’ll have westerlies at 13-16 early and 10-13 in the afternoon. Thursday’s looking a lot like Tuesday, with relatively steady 25-29 through the whole Gorge.

Random Morning Thoughts

Gorge Weather Forecast

I went outside at 6:02am to check the sky coverage, and what did I find? My neighbor also outside, but not looking at the sky. We concluded, after a short bit of discussion, that it’s cloudy. Expect a cloudy, sprinkly day today, with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon (a better chance in Portland than here in the Gorge, but still…). Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, moderate west wind after 5pm. 85% chance of rainbows after 5pm (there was one yesterday just before sunset).

Tomorrow looks partly cloudy with just a few sprinkles possible. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Light west wind early, moderate to strong west wind late. 91% chance of rainbows. Wednesday looks partly cloudy to start, with high clouds moving in by late morning and hanging around for the rest of the day. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light west wind. No rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

I went for a jog in Post yesterday evening while it was raining, and it’s now too muddy to ride again. That’s not because I was jogging, by the way. It’s because it was pouring. Anyway, we’re back to Syncline, and Syncline only, at least until Post dries out again. That isn’t such a bad thing – Syncline (known as Coyote Wall by not-locals) is awesome. In road bike news, it looks rather windy this afternoon and also Tuesday afternoon, so plan accordingly. Wednesday looks better – sunnier with lighter wind. I’d aim for Wednesday if I were after a long bike ride…

Upcoming Events

Happy Spring Break, Oregon! Today, being Monday, has the following fun events: Tai Chi at 1pm at the Mt. Hood Town Hall, community yoga at 6pm at Samadhi, and community Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30. Tomorrow is Tuesday. There’s community yoga at Flow at 4:30pm, pickup touch rugby at 5pm at the ballfields next to Jackson Park, $12 prime rib at Cebu from 5pm to 9pm, and my personal favorite: community meditation with the monks from Pacific Hermitage at Yoga Samadhi at 6:30pm.

Have an awesome day today!
