Wednesday-Thursday forecast. I get a day off – yay!

DSC_1768-Edit
A special surprise arrived at Mt. Hood yesterday – 5” of new snow. The morning model runs has predicted just a couple inches, not enough to really impact the surface conditions. But 5”, well, that’s enough to make a huge difference! You can expect sunshine this morning (Wednesday) with clouds and flurries this afternoon. The snow level will be less than 500′ all day. We’ll see light snowfall between 1pm and 4pm, for .1-.2” water value and 1-2” of new snow. Wind will be SW 10-15 all day. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Friday looks mostly cloudy in the morning and sunny by midday. The free air freezing level will be less than 500′ all day long. Light west wind. There’s some disagreement in the models about the weather for this weekend. The GFS says we stay partly to mostly clear and dry. The Euro brings in a bit of precip. That being the case, there’s no way to make a reliable weekend prediction at this point.

It’s Temira’s birthday week. Send her a card!

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m going to stay in Portland tonight, which means I’ll be without internet tomorrow. Fortunately, there’s not much going on in the weather world for the next couple of days. I’m going to turn off my alarms, which likely won’t allow me to sleep later than 4am, but will at least allow me to lounge around in bed for a little while!

What is it about lounging around in bed that’s so pleasant? Is it the warmth? The coziness of blankets wrapped around us? The cat or dog or significant other who joins in for companionship?

I suspect that lounging starts our day off right because our nervous systems aren’t designed to go from zero to one hundred in a short period of time. Well, they are designed for that, but only in times of extreme stress and danger. When we jump right out of bed and get started on our day, we tell our bodies that something is wrong. This, anyway, is my theory, and I’m sticking with it because I can.

The way for us to test it out is to make space for a few minutes of lounging before we jump out of bed. I suspect many of you do that already, perhaps by making use of the snooze button. But we can be more deliberate about this, and we can incorporate a little space to cuddle with our pets, loved ones, favorite blankie or stuffed animals before we fully move into the real world. A little bit of love before the day gets going will start the day off right. May your day be filled with love. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

There’s Nothing going on out there this morning, and the Nothing will likely stick around all day. Temps will be right around 30 early, and then, well, is it going to get above freezing? It’s going to be close… That’s important because we’ll see some light precip between 10am and 2pm in the western Gorge, and the temp will determine the precipitation type. The temp profile suggests snow, not freezing rain, but my gut says freezing rain. East wind. No rainbows.

Tomorrow looks cloudy with temps in the upper 20’s early and the low to mid 30’s in the afternoon. Again… will we get above freezing, or are the models being overly optimistic? Hard to say, but the surface temp model says we stay below freezing. East wind. No rainbows.

Friday looks like a Nothing day – low clouds for the entire day. Temps will be in the mid 20’s early and the low 30’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. The GFS has us mostly dry through the weekend with a few flurries possible Sunday pm. The Euro shows us receiving a couple inches of snow late Saturday into Sunday. We’ll have to wait and see…
