Henni’s Bar and Grill

Chef Christiaan Erasmus, formerly of Abruzzo and Nora’s, has finally opened up his own restaurant. It’s about time, because Christiaan is one talented chef, with a flair for turning meat of any sort into something ethereally delicious.

I haven’t made it over yet (hey, it’s only been open two nights), but the reviews around town are stellar. That’s no surprise, given the creativity Christiaan has show elsewhere in the Gorge.

So, if you have a chance, head over and try the food, and post your review below.

Henni’s is located at 120 East Jewett in downtown White Salmon.

Awesome quality food. And drinks. At reasonable prices.
I brought in a crew of 10 portland friends for a bday dinner a few nights after they opened and they were all blown away. I’ve been back several times since and it’s only gotten better.
Christiaan is one of the most talented creative chefs in the region.
    Go.

  • Michaelo

Go Christiaan!! Very proud of ya buddy.

  • Kristi

Been out of town for the last few months. Had dinner there last nite. YUM!!!!Happy to be back.
Excellent service, great food and within walking distance for us. I’m glad they are doing so well. I don’t get TM,s review but each to his/her own.

  • John Bryant

Wow TM! You absolutely hit nothing correct in your review! Bland???? the Curry??? I think you were high after a root canal that night! I may not be a foodie, but I do dine out 15 to 20 meals a week( I am including breakfast and dinner in case you had another root canal and can’t figure out how I have that many dinners in a week) I think that the pork shank is one of the best dishes in the gorge. Big flavor, Big flavor, Big flavor. I think the beet salad is right on the money and have yet to tire of the great app specials that they have. Plus being able to have a first rate dinner on Wa. side and then catch some entertainment across the street at Everybodys Brewing. I have tried most all restaurants in the gorge, and Henni’s is top 5 in my book! Hey TM, give it another shot, I’m sure it will surprise you!!! If I’m at the bar, I’ll buy you a gin n tonic to get your head straight) (just promise me you will go the dentist the NEXT day instead!)

Im glad to see a new restaurant opportunity in the area and going to Hennis from Hood River equals a quaint small outing. I have eaten here many times and always look forward to coming back. The tuna over risotto was fabulous…normally I dont eat that large a portion in one sitting but last time I decided to pace myself and see the meal through. Fish tacos are a great snack…I look forward to trying the pork sometime soon as well. I may have to also try Christiaans burger..he grinds choice cuts from Mountain Shadow for them, house bun and pickle and thats just uncommon. Hennis is a great addition to the local restaurant scene. Great portion per cost ratio and cool environment….highly recommend

I don’t understand how TM can claim the curries are bland. They are fabulous and full of flavor, especially the Thai red curry, as I like a little spice and Henni’s definitely delivers. The Indian curry is milder and burts with an array of flavors that all work together. There is something for everyone and the fact that they serve local water buffalo as a choice with all of their curries is simply awesome. That and the comfortable atmosphere, affordable price point and overall quality that you can feel in the food makes this place a top choice for the Gorge! Aside from the curries, my fav.. is the pork shank – not to be missed and meant to be savored. Thank you Henni’s for adding such a great addition to White Salmon and the Gorge!

Not impressed for all the hype this place gets. We went there with my parents in the middle of March on a Wednesday (maybe still a little too early after just opening in Feb) for a special dinner. The service was awkward – we weren’t sure who are servers were and I don’t think that they knew they were our servers (and the place was not crowded). Mid way through dinner our original server left and we had a new one who wasn’t friendly and very awkward – maybe an off night. I like the wine on tap thing, but carafes were a little small. My mom had the risotto dish, my father – steak and fries and my husband and I had the curry dish and also the pork shank dish. All the dishes were bland and didn’t have much to them or seemed to be missing something. My pork dish was just all right and very huge, but not that good that I wanted to take any home. I was excited about finally having another restuarant to go to in WS for a change from Hood River, but will not be rushing back to Hennis soon, and will stick to our Hood River faves – Nora’s, Sophies, Double Mt., Sushi Okalani

The Happy Hour at Henni’s is steller! The mini burgers and tator tots are awesome and the perfect amount after a bike ride or hike in the area. Great atmosphere….can’t wait to go back for dinner!

  • If you have not visited this establishment…go! It is incredible. Drinks are the best. Fresh squeezed juices…yummy. Amazing what someone can do to a small, informal spot turning it into a comfortable dining experience.

  • Kristi

We ate there Sat nite. The food was wonderful. The service was very friendly and good. They did not have the bottle of wine we wanted to order but had only been open a week so I give them a break. We did have a glass of the wine and it was yummy. We only live four blocks from there so am very excited to have a very excellent restaurant in the neighborhood. So nice not to have to cross the river for some great food.
