Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Wednesday started out rainy at 5000′, but the snow level will drop to 3500′ by mid-morning, leading to a snowy day. We’ll see rain early, snow mid-morning, and clear sky in the evening. The snow level will be 6000′ early, 3000′ after 9am, and 1500′ or less under clear sky Wednesday night. About .2-.3” water value (WV) will fall between 5am and 5pm, for 1-2” of wet new snow. Another .2” WV falls after 5pm, for another 1-2” of new snow. Wind on Wednesday will be SW 20 through 5pm and WSW 30 after that, dropping to W 15 after midnight.

Thursday starts off clear. Clouds move in during the afternoon and precip starts up around 8pm. The snow level Thursday will be 1500′ or less early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 5000-5500′ overnight. Both the GFS and the ECMWF are predicting 5000′ temps at 32-34 degrees on Thursday afternoon and evening, making for a tough call for ski area base elevations. Higher elevations should see quite a bit of new snow. As for 5000’… Let’s go with this: about 1” WV falls between 8pm Thursday and 5am Friday. With temps borderline, that’s probably going to give us 3-5” of wet snow at 5000′ with 8-10” of snow at 6500′. Wind on Thursday will be W 15 early, SW 15 in the afternoon, and SW 30 after 10pm.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Friday currently looks like it’ll be snowy in the morning with snow flurries and breaks in the weather in the evening, turning partly cloudy after midnight. The snow level Friday will be 5000′ early, steadily dropping to 4000′ in the evening and 1500′ under partly cloudy sky overnight. We’ll see .4” WV during the day, for 3-4” of snow. Another .2” WV falls after 5pm, for a couple inches of additional accumulation. Wind on Friday will be SW 30 in the morning and SW 20-25 in the afternoon and evening.

Saturday looks partly cloudy all day. The free air freezing level will be 1500′ in the morning and 3000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be SW 20 all day. Sunday currently looks dry for much of the day with a round of heavy precip in the evening. Once again, models are predicting temps will be right on the edge of rain and snow, with a snow level of 5000′ to 5500′. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Random Morning Thoughts

We humans are emotional creatures. As we go through our day, our feelings arise in response to various situations. Those circumstances don’t always allow us to give expression to the full extent of what our mind is experiencing. Sometimes, even often, we are forced to block our emotions from rising to the surface.

My personal belief is that those feelings need to come out at some point. That can mean reflecting upon them, writing about them, talking about them, or simply letting the emotions return to full consciousness.

One tricky part of this is that emotions, once buried, can be difficult to access. And this is where the internet comes in. Had to hide your tears earlier today? Go find yourself a sad video. Couldn’t jump with joy at work? Go find a happy video. No, really! By giving your mind access to a particular generic emotion, you’ll be able to revisit what you had to bury at that earlier time.

Emotions are cool. Enjoy them. Have an awesome day.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

Syncline is open. Twin Tunnels is open. There’s also some riding on Hospital Hill (unclear exactly what is open). Post is covered in downed trees and snow still, although Mobius is clear of snow and tacky in the clearcut – you’ll have to ride the road to get there. Definitely a better place for a jog than a ride right now.

Upcoming Events

It’s Wednesday morning. There’s community meditation at Flow at 8:15. There’s community yoga at the FISH food bank at 10am. There’s ping pong at the Hood River Armory at 5pm and Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30pm. Coming up Saturday evening, Kickstand is hosting a fundraiser/raffle/party for the International Avalanche Nest-Egg foundation. This charity helps out kids whose parents are killed in avalanches.

Have an awesome day today!
