Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s Wednesday morning as I write this, and the bullk of the precipitation is just to the west of Mt. Hood. Today’s snowfall depends on how quickly that precip can move 50 miles eastward. The snow level for Wednesday will be 3500′ early and 2500′ in the afternoon and evening. We’ll see, depending on where that weather system goes and how fast it goes there, .5-.7” water value (WV), for 5-8” of new snow at 5000′. Another .3” WV falls tonight, for 2-4” of additional snow. Wind will be SW 30 in the mornign and WSW 25-30 in the afternoon and evening.

Thrusday looks snowy, but less so than Wednesday. The snow level will be 2500′ most of the day and 1000′ overnight. About .2-.3” WV falls during the day, for 2-3” of new snow. Flurries fall overnight for no additional accumulation. Wind Thursday will be WSW 20-25 all day, turning to WNW 35 after midnight.

Friday sees light orographic snowfall and sunbreaks. The snow level will be 1000′ early, 2000′ in the afternoon, and 2500′ after midnight. Up to .2” WV falls, for a couple inches of snow. Wind will be WNW 35 for most of the day, W 30 in the evening, and SW 15 after midnight. Saturday currently looks clear or partly cloudy with no snowfall, and Sunday looks clear, cloudy, and then rainy after sunset.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m not sure there’s anyone out there who hasn’t been swept away by their thoughts. This can happen at any time, including before bed and in the middle of the night. While thinking deliberately about troubling things can be helpful in moving through them, geting swept into an endless thought circle, generally speaking, isn’t helpful. Intentionality is what counts; when your thoughts are spinning, ask who is in charge. Is it you, or is it your thoughts?

When we let our thoughts run the show, especially when we’re circling something negative, we just reinforce those brain circuits. They become more likely to fire up more often. Breaking this cycle is important.

So, what can you do to stop it? Well, you probably know some tricks of your own, but distraction is important. You can go do some exercise, hang with a friend, read a book, think about something else (and repeatedly bring yourself back to your chosen replacement subject). The more you can be fully present with something other than your thought topic, the more likely you are to break the cycle of rumination. You’ll feel more awesome if you do. Have an awesome day.
