We’ll see an additional .3” rain by 5pm followed by another .3” rain after 5pm. Wind today will be SW 30-35 all day, fading to SW 15-20 after midnight. Continued after the chart…

Friday looks partly cloudy early, sunny for much of the day, and rainy after 11pm. The free air freezing level will be 6500′ early and 8000′ when the precip hits. We’ll see .2” water value between 11pm Friday and 5am Saturday. Wind will be light SW turning to light SE in the afternoon, picking up to SE 20 after 10pm.

Saturday currently looks like rain, wet snow, or mixed precip with the snow level around 6000′. Models are suggesting we could see some snow at 5000′ on Sunday night into Monday. Cross your fingers.

Gorge Wind Forecast

We’ll see east wind of various strengths over the next few days as a series of low pressure systems rotate off the coast. This morning’s system is big and burly, resulting in east wind at 40mph or so at Rooster and mid 20’s at Steven’s Locks. Expect the wind to hold for a couple hours this morning. After that, expect a slow and steady fad to calm wind at 5pm and light westerlies after 8pm. Thursday peaks at E 10-15 at Stevenson and Rooster. Friday starts off with light easterlies, picks up to E 25-30, and fades to E 15-20 in the afternoon and evening.

Random Morning Thoughts

It’s quite nice of the Gorge Happiness person to give me things to talk about. Today’s happiness suggestion is to walk or drive a different route. There’s a lot more contained within that little suggestion than appears at first sight.

For those of us who have adaptive, flexible ways of being in the world, this may not apply. For many of us, routine and structure bring comfort. Underlying that clinging to routine is often unconscious fear of change or newness or a need to control situations. You can check it out for yourself and see if that’s the case for you.

Anyway, trying something new, even just a new driving route, may bring up some anxiety. If you can overlay the anxiety with your exploration system, good things will happen. Bring up some curiosity about what you might see, awe at the pretty things you do see, or some sort of humor. Good work. You’re on your way to creating more flexibility, openness, and freedom across all domains of your life. Give it a shot. Try something new. Make sure you find something good in the newness. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 51 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

As I write this, it’s absolutely pouring rain out there. Expect the pouring to continue through 10am or so, followed by on-and-off light to moderate rain for the rest of the day. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and mid 50’s in the afternoon. East wind. 14% chance of rainbows. Thursday sees on-and-off showers all day. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light east wind. 34% chance of rainbows. Friday looks like a Nothing day: dry and cloudy early with a chance of sunshine midday before clouds return. East wind. No rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

I went for a quick ride up the back of Hospital Hill yesterday, and it was too wet to ride. That means Post is too wet (especially after .67” of rain since midnight). Whoopdee’s too wet. Syncline’s probably too wet too. The only place not-to-wet is a trainer bike. Friday looks dry all day, so the road biking, at least, will be good. Mark your calendar for a HRATS work party on the Whoopdee on November 6th and in Post Canyon on November 13th.

Upcoming Events

It’s Wednesday morning. There’s community meditation at Flow at 8:15. There’s community yoga at the FISH food bank at 10am. There’s ping pong at the Hood River Armory at 5pm and Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30pm.

Coming up Saturday, the movie Room to Breathe shows at the Columbia Art Gallery. This flick is about a school in California that replaced detention with meditation. Should be good. 5:30pm, Saturday evening.

Have an awesome day today!
