Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…

Tomorrow starts off with 5-10 through pretty much the whole Gorge. An afternoon weather system will kick the wind up to 15-18 from Stevenson to Doug’s by noon. As that weather system moves closer, we’ll see the wind pick up to 23-26 from Stevenson to Rufus after 2pm, with the Viento to Mosier stretch backing off to the upper teens.

Thursday starts off with light west wind and picks up to 22-25 in the afternoon, should the unstable atmosphere on Thursday permit the wind to pick up that much. In other words, Thursday’s going to be a bit of a crapshoot – we’ll have some wind, for some periods of time, but the location and strength are a bit up in the air. Most likely scenario is that the most stable wind will be found at the Rowena stretch of the river.

Coast. Today: SW 10-15, NW swell 7′ @ 11 seconds. Tomorrow, LTV north/central, 10-15 south, NW 7′ @ 11. Thursday: light/light/20-25, NW 6 @ 10 and SW 3 @ 12.

Jones n’ Sauvie’s beta test forecast. Jones today, 11-14. Jones tomorrow, 11-14. Jones Thursday, 10-13. Sauvie’s the next three days: no wind.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m in the process of getting a tattoo, and I had my first session on it a few days ago. I found it to be the most relaxing thing I’ve ever done: better than a massage, better than meditation, better than chilling out watching a movie. I almost fell asleep, and I’m not the kind of person who falls asleep anywhere other than my own bed or couch.

This experience has me thinking about why in the world having someone poke me thousands of times would be so relaxing.

Getting a tattoo is relational. The recipient of a tattoo places a lot of trust in the person doing the tattoo. When we trust, we let our guard down. We feel supported, we feel accompanied, and we understand, on a very deep level, that we are not alone in the world. We turn off our internal alarm system, and we relax completely.

Different people relax under different circumstances. What works for you? See if you can recall that sensation and allow it to take over in other circumstances. Why? Because when we relax, we are open to experience. We are open to deep connection with others. We are open to our own internal experience.

And when those things happen, we’re living life to the fullest. And life is awesome. So do what you can to experience it as fully as possible. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

The “change in the weather” continues today with partly cloudy sky and a chance of shower in the evening. But before we get into that, the Portland office of the NWS is saying this is officially going to be the hottest summer on record for the Portland area. If you are a climate change denier, you can write that off as seasonal variability. If you believe in man-made climate change, use it as evidence.

Anyway, today’s forecast: low 60’s early, mid 70’s this afternoon, light wind early, moderate wind this afternoon. Increasing clouds and a chance of showers later with a 17% chance of rainbows.

Tomorrow looks partly cloudy early with showers and t-showers possible in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 50’s early and right near 70 in the afternoon. Light wind early, moderate late, 65% chance of rainbows. Thursday looks just like tomorrow!

Road and Mountain Biking

In trail news, the dirt was amazing in Post Canyon yesterday. Although it rained a ton in the mountains, Kim R. reports that 8 Mile and Knebal are still dry. If you want to take the kids out riding, tomorrow’s Families at Family Man, with kid-friendly riding and pizza in Post Canyon. Road biking will be nice here until midday, with light wind early. Tomorrow and Thursday morning also look good for road biking.
