Thursday-Sunday forecast. Yeah, I’m taking a few days off.

KirkZRainbow
First thing: I’m taking the next three days off. See you Monday! It’s snowing hard this morning (Thursday) on Mt. Hood, and the heavy snow should continue through early afternoon. Then we’ll see partly cloudy sky. The snow level today will be around 4000′ for much of the day, rising to 5000′ after midnight. We’ll see .4-.6” water value (WV) between this morning and 4pm, for 4-6” of new snow. We’ll see light snowfall after that, for an inch or so of new before the precipitation ends. Wind today will be W 40 early, slowly dropping to W 25 around 4pm and turning to SW 10 overnight. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Friday starts off cloudy. Heavy precip starts around 1pm, continues through 7pm, and then turns to light precip after 7pm. This is a bit of a tricky forecast: The snow level will be 6000′ early, rising to 6500′ mid-afternoon and dropping to 4500′ by 7pm, and falling to 1500′ by Saturday morning. We’ll see about 1” WV during that period. My best guess is that it will start as rain and end as 2-3” of snow. Wind on Friday will be SW 10-15 early, rising to SW 25 by noon and SW 30 by 4pm. We’ll see the wind become W 40 in the evening.

Saturday brings a few flurries and sunbreaks in the morning, perhaps for an inch of new snow. The flurries will be followed by high clouds. The snow level Saturday will be 1500′ early and 5000′ in the afternoon. Wind Saturday will be W 35-40 early, falling to W 20 in the afternoon.

We may see a little fog or sprinkles early Sunday, but the sky will quickly clear. The free air freezing level will be 7000′ early and 11,000′ in the afternoon. 5000′ temps will max out around 40 degrees on Sunday. Wind will be NW 25 early, backing off to light and variable in the afternoon. The first half of next week, at least, looks super warm on the mountain, with temps in the 50’s.

Random Morning Thoughts

One of the things they keep telling us in my grad program is that our Self is the most valuable tool we have. By Self, they mean genuine, authentic presence. It turns out, as you may have noticed, that being exactly who you are is a very difficult thing.

Being your Self requires you to be fully present in the moment. If you’re thinking about what to do next, if you’re wondering about the “right” thing to say or worrying that you’re going to say the “wrong “ thing, you’re not being your Self. Another piece of the equation is that many people unconsciously (or consciously) believe that if they are genuine and speak/act in congruence with what’s going on inside in the moment, they will be disliked by others.

Staying totally in the moment can be tricky, liberating, and exhilarating, among many other things. Grab a friend and try it sometime. Just report exactly what you’re noticing inside yourself. For example, you might say, “I’m feeling really nervous right now,” and your friend might say, “I’m feeling nervous too, and now I’m feeling connected to you because we’re feeling the same thing.” When you play this not-game, you report your world. If you have enough trust with your partner, you can contact their world too: “You just leaned back, and now I feel worried.” It’s tricky to get the hang of, and super fun once you do. Well, I think so, anyway. If you’re intrigued, play with it. You might just find that you’re okay, just as you are. Have an awesome day!

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s raining out there this morning, and we’ll see continued steady rain through early afternoon followed by showers. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 40’s this afternoon. Light west wind. 99.4% chance of rainbows. Tomorrow starts out cloudy. Heavy rain starts up by 1pm, continuing through 8pm, with a few sprinkles overnight. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. East wind early, light wind late, 17% chance of rainbows.

Saturday may start off with a few sprinkles or may just be partly cloudy. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the upper 40’s in the afternoon. Light west wind. 61% chance of rainbows. Sunday looks cloudy to start and sunny in the afternoon. However, it’s possible, given the developing inversion, that we may see a Nothing.

Looking ahead to next week, a strong ridge of high pressure and mega inversion develops over the PNW. Temps will be in the 50’s and 60’s above the inversion and in the upper 30’s to low 40’s below the inversion. In other words, you can seek out warmth and sunshine at the coast and in the mountains during the first part of next week.

Email KK@gorge.net and RSVP if you’d like to help out.
