Thursday. Hot, hot, hot.

DSCF0601
There’s just a tongue-teaser of a taste of wind out there this morning with an easterly gradient of .04 pushing low double-digits at Stevenson, Cascade Locks and It’s-not-a-Rooster Rock. If you’re in desperate need of wind, you’ll be better served looking elsewhere than the Gorge today. However, if you have sports that function better in no wind, you’re going to be happy as a clam outside of clamming season today! Continued after the chart.

In Gorge beach-related news, SR-14 is closed for tunnel repaving (west of 141 through all the tunnels) tonight from 8pm to 6am. In conjunction with that, the Hood River Bridge is free tonight between those hours, making it a perfect evening to cross the bridge over and over and over, visiting all those places you never go because it costs $2. Starting August 3rd and continuing through September, there’s no parking along Cascade Ave. in Stevenson. This will affect Bob’s Beach and possibly Kite Beach parking.

Random Morning Thoughts

So, I took yesterday off, as you may have noticed. I got up, watered my garden, went and cleaned someone’s house, drove to Portland to see my therapist, attended an NVC practice group and went to dinner with a friend. In other words, I didn’t take a day off, as you may have gathered. I clearly need more practice.

This raises the larger question of what it means to take a day off. Or what it means to chill out. To relax. I haven’t got this one figured out at all. What’s coming up for me when I write this is that taking a day off is about being deeply in touch with yourself. It’s about doing exactly what you need, exactly when you need it. It’s about being kind to you. It’s about stopping your motion long enough to know exactly what is kind in any given moment.

It’s going to be over 100 degrees each of the next three days, and that will give each of us plenty of opportunity to explore what it means to chill out, and I’m not talking about hanging out in the best AC in Hood River (the Post Office, of course). I’m talking about chilling with the inner children. Play with it – make the most of the ridiculously hot weather. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

Mother Nature is giving us a gift this morning in the form of sub-60 degree weather. Take advantage of it by opening all your doors and windows, pointing all your fans at the ceiling, and capturing that cool air for later on. Expect fucking hot temps of 103 or so later on with no wind. Temps will cool to the upper 60’s tonight and rise to fucking hot again tomorrow: 103. Expect mid 60’s Saturday morning with fucking hot highs in the triple digits. Hey, at least we’re not Eugene: they’re expect 105 today. That’s officially Really Fucking Hot.

Road and Mountain Biking

Oh what an amazing morning for road biking. It’s cool and breezeless and utterly gorgeous. It’ll be nice in the woods too. That is all I have to say, other than a reminder that Kreps and SDS lands (Hospital Hill, Whoopdee, and East Ridge, are all closed to ALL uses due to fire danger).
