Gorge Wind

We have leftover westerlies this morning with gradients at .08 (pdx-dls) and .04 (dls-psc) at 6am. Expect west wind at 13-16 today from Mosier to Maryhill early and Steven’s Locks to Doug’s in the afternoon. With nothing much moving about in the atmosphere today, you should find relatively steady wind for early April.

Friday starts off light and variable. A cold front swings through midday, and high pressure builds in behind it off the coast. That’ll give us gusty westerlies at 22-25 after 2pm from Lyle to Arlington with the potential for gusty 25-29 in those areas of the river for a couple of hours. This is going to be a fast-moving weather system, so I’m going to recommend pre-emptive driving. Saturday looks like E less-than-10. Sunday starts off LTV and rises, briefly, to W 15-18 in the afternoon.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s clear to the east and cloudy to the west this morning and a bit on the chilly side outside my front door. I didn’t like being chilly, so I came inside. Expect temps in the low 40’s this morning and mid 50’s this afternoon with lots of sunshine. Moderate west wind. No rainbows.

Tomorrow might start off sunny, but clouds move in quickly and rain starts by noon, ending by sunset. With light wind and clear sky overnight, there’s a decent chance that some areas of Hood River and the upper valleys will drop to right around freezing tomorrow morning. So, hopefully you haven’t planted your tomatoes. Anyway, temps will rise to the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Moderate west wind by afternoon, 99% chance of rainbows, 80% chance of a colorful sunset.

Saturday looks sunny for most of the day with high clouds in the afternoon. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and the upper 50’s in the afternoon. It’s possible we’ll see some Nothing in the morning, and it’s entirely possible we’ll see clear sky and sub-freezing temps. Watch out for your orchards and gardens on Saturday morning. Light wind. No rainbows. Sunday looks showery with a 99% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

I went for a jog in Post Canyon yesterday, and it was WAY too muddy for people to be riding. I saw lots of deep divots in the trail from people’s tires. That makes me sad, because now volunteers have to spend time fixing, rather than building anew. Big kudos to Nelson Snyder for turning around when he realized how muddy it was. I wish more people would be like Nelson. Anyway, I am sure you’ll find perfect dirt at Syncline today.

In road biking news, we’ll see light westerlies today and sunshine, so it will be lovely. You might sneak in a ride before the wind and rain tomorrow morning, but it’s going to be mighty chilly and possibly even slick. Saturday starts off cold, but ends up sunny with light wind, so it should be perfect on the roads by afternoon.

If you would like to give back to trails, there’s a work party on the 140 just below FMX on Saturday at 9am.

Upcoming Events

So, I mentioned the monks and meditation yesterday. It seems that I was a little confused – there are apparently two hermitages in the area. One is in Trout Lake (the Trout Lake Zen Abbey) and there’s another in White Salmon. If you’d like to meditate with the monks from White Salmon, you can do so at Tuesday night at 6:30pm at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. If you’d like to do Metta practice and meditation with the other monks, that’s on Sunday night at 6pm at Trinity Arts Studio in Hood River. I think I have this correct now.

Anyway, it’s Thursday. There’s community yoga at Flow at 8am. There’s community yoga at Yoga Samadhi at 6:30pm. Coming up tomorrow, there’s the 10 Speed Coffee run at (duh) 10 Speed at 7am. There’s also Iaido at 6:30am at Trinity. On Saturday, Hood River County has a work party on the 140 trail section below FMX. If you want to work on trails, be there then.

Have an awesome day today!
