Sunday. Another awesome day in your life.

This morning’s reality is not agreeing with yesterday morning’s model predictions. Not only that, but reality is not agreeing with this morning’s model predictions either. Models say east wind, and there was an easterly gradient at 7am – .05 – but there wasn’t much wind… yet. You can expect the easterlies to build to 25-29 at Rooster late morning through early afternoon with 22-25 at Steven’s Locks. The east wind, as usual, will fade in the afternoon, dropping back to gusty 15-18 or so. Continued after the chart.

Today’s Gorge Wind – these are ranges for the average speed, not a predicted wind range. =)

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…

Tomorrow starts off with easterlies at 26-30 at Rooster and upper teens at Steven’s Locks. By mid-morning, Steven’s Locks will have 24-27. Once again, you will want to finish up before noon or so, because the wind will back off into the teens in the afternoon.

Tuesday starts off with easterlies at 10-13 and switches to late-afternoon westerlies at 13-16. Wednesday looks like a light and variable day on the river.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Nothing to say here today.

Random Morning Thoughts

I ride my bike in Hood River quite a bit. In the last few days, my attention has been captured by all the signs advertising marijuana shops. We have four of them, you know. One liquor store, four pot shops and a privately run toll bridge. Funny little town…

Anyway, I’m still struggling to wrap my head around the fact that anyone over 21 can just walk into a store and buy any number of varieties of pot. I never thought I’d see marijuana legalized. I didn’t think reason and sanity could prevail against the strength of Big Prison, Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, and Big Booze.

Weed is legal because the People made it legal. The corporations were unable to stop the march of grassroots democracy. So, the next time you hear yourself saying, “We can’t change anything,” or “ can’t win,” think again. We did it before. We’ll do it again. All we need is hope, the organizational capacity to put things on the ballot, and the willingness to vote.

We, the People, made pot legal (whether you think that’s a good thing or not). We, the People, can enact other changes over the protests of the corporations, the SuperPACs, and the legislators. We can change things. Why? Because we’re powerful and we’re awesome. #yeswecan #hope #haveanawesomeday

Gorge Weather Forecast

Well, here we are again. Another beautiful, sunny fall day. Expect temps in the upper 40’s early and the mid 70’s this afternoon with light east wind. There’s a chance of frost this evening in areas not affected by east wind. In other words, if it’s totally and completely calm at your house this evening, and you’re in an exposed area, you might just see frost. Tomorrow starts off with temps in the low 40’s (or less) and climbs to the mid 70’s. Light east wind. Tuesday also looks sunny with temps in the mid 40’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, moderate westerlies late.

Long-range models are hinting at a chance of rain on Sunday as a weak atmospheric river takes aim at some location between Oregon and Vancouver Island. As of this morning, models are suggesting the moisture, should it pan out, will hit Vancouver Island, not us. But there’s plenty of time for that to change, so cross your fingers and do your rain dances.

Road and Mountain Biking

Nothing to report other than the fact that today and tomorrow look like awesome days for road biking. Oh, there is a chance we’ll see some rain late next weekend. There’s a chance we’ll have tacky trails soon.

McCurdy Farms, Hood River

Need pears? Need apples? Need a suggestion for a good bike ride around here? The McCurdy Farms fruit stand halfway up Peggy’s Roost Hill (2080 Tucker Road, just below Portland Drive) has the best prices on the best fruit and the best ride suggestions too. Fruit prices are $.50-$.75/lb for beautiful pears and apples. Cycling advice is free. They have lots of my favorite pears, Comice. Maybe they have your favorites too. Stop by and say hi to Natalie and Craig when you ride by on your Valley Loop bike ride. Come back later for lots of fruit and suggestions on other rides. McCurdy Farms – the secret fruit stand not on the Fruit Loop map. Visit today.

Upcoming Events

Happy Sunday! Today’s big event is Cross on the Mountain, cyclocross at Cooper Spur. The Tri Club is having a big day too – they’re doing a half ironman starting at the Event Site at 8am. Also today, three yoga classes, including my favorite, the 9am Vinyasa Flow class with Crystal at Yoga Samadhi. There’s also a 4pm YogaFaith class at Pure Yoga and a 6pm class at Root Down yoga. Other things to do today include just plain existing on this beautiful fall day, playing rugby at 3pm at the Mosier School and playing ping pong at 5:30pm at the Hood River Armory.

Tomorrow brings free Tai Chi at 1pm at the Mt. Hood Town Hall. Then there’s yoga at the town hall at 6:30 and another yoga class at 6:30 at Yoga Samadhi. There’s free Zumba tomorrow night at the Mt. Hood Community Center at 6:30.

I don’t know what’s happening next weekend, but I’m sure you’ll tell me all about it!

Have an awesome day today!
