Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

I wish that I had snow-related news for you, but I don’t unless you have a way to move our ski resorts bases up a few thousand feet. No ability to do that? Okay, here’s the Mt. Hood r**n forecast. Expect high clouds on Saturday morning on through Saturday afternoon with periods of blue sky possible. The free air freezing level will be 6000′ early and 8000′ in the afternoon before dropping to 6500′ after midnight. Wind will be light SW in the morning and SW 10-15 in the afternoon and evening. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Sunday looks sprinkly and/or showery through 5pm, after which the mountain should see clearing or wispy high clouds and a pretty sunset. The snow level on Sunday will be just-too-high, at 6000′ to 6500′ in the morning and 8000′ in the afternoon. It’s likely we’ll see wet snow (aka “snain”) or mixed precipitation. Just .1-.2” water value, for less than 1” of new snow, if any at all. Wind on Sunday will be SW 10-15 early, turning to the S and then SE at 20 in the afternoon and evening.

Monday currently looks a bit wetter than Sunday. R**n or mixed precip falls in the morning with sprinkles or flurries in the afternoon. The snow level will be 6500′ for much of the day, dropping to 5500′ after 11pm when the precip ends. Expect .3-.4” mixed precip, snain, or r**n between 5am and 5pm, followed by unmeasurable (as opposed to a real word, immeasurable) light precipitation after 5pm, ending by midnight. Wind on Monday will be sorta SW or SSW at 15-20.

The forecast models are not in all that much agreement on the timing of the systems for the first half of next week. There’s definitely a wet one coming in on Tuesday or Wednesday. Unfortunately, the wetness arrives as r**n, not s-n-o-w at ski resort bases.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Light easterlies this morning pick up to E 20-25 at Rooster and E 15-20 at Steven’s Locks this afternoon as an upper level low spins off the coast. Sunday looks like light and variable wind early. Another low approaches the coast in the afternoon for easterlies at 15-20. Monday starts off light and variable, goes to E 25-30 at Rooster as yet another low sits off the coast. In the afternoon, a frontal system swings through for west wind at 12-15.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m looking out my window this morning at the Nothing. It’s sapping my will to write. Instead of spending time thinking, I’m going to meditate, do some homework, and ride my bike. Damn you, Nothing!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 51 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

What you see outside your window this morning, my friends, is not clouds. It’s the awful, nasty, deplorable Nothing, come to deliver darkness and gloom to the Gorge much earlier than usual this year. Awful, I tell you. If you head above the Nothing, you’ll find high clouds this morning with filtered sunshine. Doesn’t that sound nice? Anyway, temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. We’re at 4.64” of rain since October 1st, fyi. Sunday looks sprinkly and cloudy. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the upper 50’s in the afternoon. Light easterlies. 9% chance of rainbows. Monday looks cloudy early with sprinkles possible during the day and rain after 2pm. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the upper 50’s in the afternoon. Light easterlies turn to light westerlies in the afternoon. 78% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

I went for a jog in Post Canyon yesterday afternoon, and it was borderline muddy. Maybe it will dry out enough by this afternoon. I have a confirmed report that Syncline was good yesterday. I sorta wonder if the 44 Road trails are good right now. The weather will certainly be better up there earlier today than it will be down in the valley. In road biking news, today looks great, with light wind all day and no rain. Just the Nothing.

Upcoming Events

There’s an 8am (was) trail run in Post Canyon this morning. The annual winter weather forecast gathering is at OMSI from 10am to noon today. There are three free yoga classes tomorrow: 9am at Samadhi, 4pm at Pure Yoga in The Dalles, and 6pm at Pure Yoga Hood River. There’s pickup touch rugby at 3pm at the Mosier School and community meditation at 11am at Flow Yoga.

Have an awesome day today!
