Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

We’re looking at a sunny weekend on Mt. Hood. The general picture for next week is a rain or mixed precip event on Monday followed by snow Tuesday, rain Wednesday and significant snowfall on Thursday and Friday.
For Saturday, we’ll have sunshine on the hill. The free air freeizng level will be around 10,000′. Wind will be NW 20 in the morning and light and variable in the afternoon. Sunday looks sunny. The free air freezing level will be about 11,000′. Widn will be S 10 all day.
Monday starts off clear, turns cloudy mid-morning, and sees precip after 10am. The heaviest precicp Monday will fall between 10am and 4pm with a trace after that. I say this because it’s $20 Rotary Night at Meadows on Monday. Anyway, the snow level will be 11,000′ early, 9000′ when the precip hits, and 5000′ in the evening. That means the mountain will see perhaps 1/4” rain during the day followed by a trace of snow in the evening. Widn will be S 15 early, rising to SW 20-25 in the evening.
Tuesday looks snowy. The snow level will be 4500′ early, 5500′ midday, and 3500′ in the evening. With that midday bump, it’s hard to tell if the precip will remain snow or rain. Anyway, the mountain should end up with a few more inches of snow. The long range forecast has an inch of rain Wednesday and 10-16” of new snow between Thursday and Friday. Fingers crosssed!

Random Morning Thoughts

No time for this today. Very busy day. Make it an awesome one!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

The wind will back off to E 15-20 in the afternoon.

Road and Mountain Biking

With all the rain we had yesterday, everything will be too muddy to ride. Please let the trails rest. Post Canyon remains closed to all users to protect delicate dirt from winter damage. Whoopdee is also closed to bikes and horses. It is open to pedestrians. Please respect this, even if you think it doesn’t apply to you.

Upcoming Events

Today 3pm is the Cold Lap mixed surface ride at Dirty Fingers. Next Wednesday is the annual Chili Cookoff at DF.
