First off, windsurfers, CGWA has a bunch of contests happening this summer – photo, Strava, and video. Get more information about those contests right here. Next, let’s talk about your wind forecast, once again late as I struggle to catch up on sleep by sleeping in well past sunup. Don’t forget that there is a kiter-only swap tonight at Windance form 5pm to 8pm followed by the Kite Season Kickoff Party at the River City from 8pm to 10pm. Continued after the chart…

Gorge wind forecast, continued…

We’re starting off the day with weak westerly gradients of .03 (pdx-dls) and .02 (dls-psc). That’s giving us 13-16 in the western Gorgte and 10-13 in the eastern Gorge. Models are insisting we’ll see the whole Gorge drop off to 5-10 midday before rebounding in the afternoon. I’ve decided I think we’ll see 13-16 all day in the western Gorge – Stevenson to Doug’s – with perhaps a midday lull of 10-13, followed by 20-23 late this afternoon from Swell to Doug’s with 10-13 in the eastern Gorge.

Sunday starts off with a deep marine layer and sees a weak weather system move through midday before high pressure builds in the afternoon. That’ll give us morning wind through the whole Gorge in the 7-10 range. By mid-afternoon. We’ll have 24-28 from Viento east to Arlington. Stevenson is a maybe depending on cloud cover, so let’s call it 15-18 on Sunday afternoon. Speaking of cloud cover, the morning clouds will have an impact on the steadiest wind on Sunday, meaning your best bet for steady wind will likely be somewhere between Mosier and Rufus.

Looking at Monday, high pressure starts building inland. We might see a Dawn Patrol of 10-13, but the wind will likely back off to nothing by the afternoon. Then again, this model scenario often undercalls the wind, and we may see 10-13 all day long! Tuesday looks like east wind at 15-20 or so.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

No, I don’t feel like forecasting snow today.

Random Morning Thoughts

I was talking to some of my friends yesterday and they shared a tidbit of wisdom from the kids at Little Oak Montessori: “If you’re so busy, you need to go slow.” That’s your daily wisdom, brought to you by 7 and 8 year olds. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s sunny out there this morning, but we may actually see increasing (high) clouds this afternoon as a weak cold front impacts Washington. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and the low 70’s this afternoon. Light to moderate wind. No rainbows. Sunday starts off partly cloudy with a chance of showers and ends up sunny. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and the low 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, moderate to strong wind late. 99% chance of rainbows. Monday looks sunny. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the upper 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Looks like we’ll get close to 90 on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Road and Mountain Biking

I think there were a few sprinkles yesterday, and there will probably be a few more tomorrow, so the trails should be good. In just-off-the-press news, Surveyor’s is open and so is 8 Mile. They join Oak Ridge, Knebal, and Dog River for your 44 Roading pleasure. In road biking news, today should be great, with light westerlies, at least until late afternoon. Get out early tomorrow morning, or wait until Monday, when road biking conditions will be epic. Tuesday looks like a great day to ride to Portland!

Upcoming Events

In events today, there’s the Color Dash Run in North Bonneville, the Lewis and Clark 12 and 24 hour bike race in Hockinson and Downhill mountain bike racing at Skibowl. There’s a kiter-only swap meet at Windance from 5 to 8 tonight followed by the Spring Kickoff Kite Party at the River City Saloon from 8 to 10.

Coming up tomorrow, there are three free yoga classes: 9am at Samadhi, 4pm at Pure Yoga in The Dalles, and 6pm at Pure Yoga in Hood River. There’s also community meditation at 11 at Flow and at 6:30 at Yoga Samadhi. The meditation at Samadhi tomorrow night features Ajahn Amaro, a visiting Buddhist monk. Buddhist monks are cool peeps, and I highly recommend you check this out.

Have an awesome day today!
