Sushi Okalani
It’s baffling to me why Hood River needs two sushi restaurants. It’s not bad that we have two. I happen to like sushi. I happen to like sushi a lot. If we didn’t have sushi, I’d drive to Portland to get it. Instead, there’s sushi and sake right here. That’s a good thing, because, for me, driving home from Portland after drinking lots of sake is a dangerous proposition.
Anyway, Sushi Okalani is located underneath Celilo restaurant on 1st street in downtown Hood River. It’s a cozy spot, meaning the tables are pretty close. If you’re planning a risque and intimate conversation, you might want to go elsewhere, or the Hood River wireless will have word of your conversation all over town before you leave the restaurant.
Sushi Okalani’s menu is similar to Kaze’s menu, but with an Island slant rather than a true Japanese bent. Quality tends to be more consistent at Kaze, where a real Japanese windsurfer makes all the sushi rolls (just teasing you, Toshi-san), but service tends to be better at Sushi Okalani.
If you’ve been to Sushi Okalani recently, please take the time to submit a review below, and thank you! Kampai!
