Ho-Ho’s Chinese

Bad Chinese food is a cliché. Ho-ho’s embodies that cliché. Large plates of sloppy Chinese food arrive with smile-free service. If you’re drunk or starving, the food is fine. It’s no worse than you’ll get at any other bad Chinese joint.

However, there’s a trick. If your server is Chinese, as she likely will be, order a beer in Chinese and you’ll have a new friend for life. Sure, she’ll laugh at your pronunciation, but she’ll be secretly thrilled that you tried. I’ll let you figure out how to say “I’d like a beer please” in Chinese.

Ho-Ho’s is a good place to drink. It’s dark. It’s dingy. People don’t care that you’re getting wasted. There’s a pool table for your drunken entertainment, and there are lifelong drunks itching for a conversation. I think Ho-ho’s is a nice place. It’s cheap, and sometimes a big plate of cheap, greasy Chinese food is just what you need.
