Double Mountain Brewery
In any town, there’s always one bar or restaurant that’s nearly always crowded, be it a Monday or a Saturday. In Hood River, Double Mountain is that place. The selection of hand-crafted, unfiltered brews (I swear the alcohol content is higher than advertised), served in 20oz pints, keeps the bar full and the tables packed.
Along with artisan beer, Double Mountain serves thin-crust pizza and oversized, reasonably priced salads. The front taproom features couches and closely packed tables. The back room offers a view into the back room brewery along with couches, tables and live music. If you’re hoping for a table on a Friday or Saturday night, show up early. It’s often standing-room only at Double Mountain.
I’m not a beer connoisseur, so I’ll let Double Mountain’s website speak for itself: “Matt Swihart and Charlie Devereux founded Double Mountain in 2007 with a clear mission: make great beer for craft beer fans. Ours is a “brewers’ brewery”, with an uncompromising focus on beer quality.
From the beginning, our goal was to make beers that we liked to drink. All of our beers are served up unfiltered and long-aged, to deliver maximum flavor and character. The beers can be very complex and assertive, but with the ultimate goal of proper balance. We aim to satisfy both the hardcore aficionados and the more casual craft beer fan, all in the same glass.”
The taproom, located at 8 4th Street in downtown Hood River, is open Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 10pm, Friday and Saturday from 11:30am to 11pm, and on Sunday from 11:30am to 10pm.
