China Gorge

Grace Su’s China Gorge restaurant has survived forever. Their website, ChinaGorge.com does not say how long. It’s been a long time. Unlike Hood River’s other venerable Chinese restaurant, Jack’s, China Gorge does not have Scorpion Bowls. It does have large portions of flavorful, reasonably priced Chinese food.

Locals eat at China Gorge. Tourists, for some reason, don’t seem to find it, despite its obvious location at the 4-way stop on Highway 35, right across from Tum-a-Lum lumber.

One very nice thing about China Gorge is that it gets you out of the downtown parking scene. You can park in the park-n-ride across the street, where you’ll rub elbows with sweaty Mt. Hood Meadows employees in the winter. In the summer, you’ll have your appetite whetted by spandex-clad road bikers who’ve driven to ride the Twin Tunnels trail.

Anyway, enough about the China Gorge park-n-ride, and back to the food. It’s Chinese. The waitstaff is kind. The prices are reasonable, at $10-$12 for main dishes.
