Friday. Windy, windy, windy, windy…

DSC_7985-Edit
We’re in a nearly perfect setup for wind in the Gorge, with high pressure offshore, a trough of low pressure along the coast, and a heat low in the desert. Shake the sleep out of your eyes, skip the shower, slather on some sunscreen and head to the beach for a few hours of Gorge Goodness to start your day. Our 7am gradients were .15 (pdx-dls) and .04 (dls-psc), a bit weaker than they’ve been to start off the last few days. However, the wind is stronger, with a solid 30 at 7am at Swell. Continued after the chart…

Gorge wind forecast, continued…

You’ll be wanting your small gear today, as the 26-30 continues all day long with periods of 30-35 especially near Rowena this afternoon. If you’re looking for more details, read on: Expect 26-30 near Swell and Mosier this morning with mid teens everywhere else. By early afternoon, we should be seeing 26-30 from Stevenson to Rufus. Arlington should join in later with mid to upper 20’s.

A little ol’ weak weather disturbance clips WA on Saturday morning, theoretically starting off the day with 22-25. However, that was today’s forecast, and it’s quite likely we’ll see 24-28 tomorrow morning instead of what the models predict. Either way, by tomorrow afternoon we’ll be back to 26-30 from Stevenson to Arlington.

A weak cold front on Sunday morning bumps up the marine layer a notch or two. That starts us off with 26-30 from Bingen to Doug’s (perhaps at Swell if the clouds don’t push in too far). By afternoon, we’ll have 28-32 from Swell (?) to Arlington. Monday looks windy too, in case you were wondering!

This weekend is typically the busiest of the year on the water. Please be courteous to your fellow kiters and windsurfers and SUPers and SurfSkiers and everyone else, both on and off the water. Park tight on land and leave plenty of room between you and others on the water. And have an awesome super windy weekend!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

There will be snow on the ground at Mt. Hood today, and every day until the glaciers completely melt away.

Random Morning Thoughts

The only thing on my mind right now is 100% not random: it’s getting a few hours on the water before I spend the rest of the day studying.

Oh, and you can hold yourself with that view too. You also deserve compassion. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be in 708 days). I am your weather forecaster.
