Good morning,

The weather today is going to be affected by an upper level low off the coast. That system will give us high clouds today and light east winds. Models were suggesting 20’s this morning, but after checking in with reality, I find a .01 gradient and light easterlies. I think it will pick up a bit, maybe to 10-15mph midday, but the wind will collapse this afternoon. The Gorge will switch back to a westerly pattern overnight, reaching the 18-21 range near Hood River tomorrow morning.

Models are showing some crazy stuff this weekend with a low pressure system in the desert. If that scenario really plays out, we’re going to see westerlies in the 27-30 range tomorrow afternoon, with a good chance of 30-plus at Doug’s and possibly Maryhill. However, there’s also a very good chance of thunderstorms in the desert, and that will make the wind a lot lighter and gustier.

Sunday shows a similar pattern, with low pressure and thunderstorms in the desert. I think the best wind will be in the mid-twenties near Hood River in the morning.

That forecast isn’t exactly exact, but there are a few things you can count on this weekend. For dirt bikers, there’s a work party on the 140 trail on Sunday, meeting at the Post Flats staging area. For mountain bikers, also on Sunday, there’s Charley Laventure trail day, meeting at the dirt road just past family man. Coming up Saturday night, there’s a fundraiser at the Hood River library to raise money to help get the library back open by July 1. And btw, I still think it’s disgraceful, and reflects very poorly on Hood River, that we let the library close.

Finally, if you’re up for rafting this weekend, head to the White Salmon. It’s at a very fun 4 feet, and since Condit’s coming out this fall and bridge construction starts soon, this is your last few weeks to run the Lower White Salmon.

Have an awesome day today!
