Random Morning Thoughts

I’m really tired this morning, and I’m not feeling enough concentration in my mind to come up with something deep and thoughtful. But I am looking out the window of my office at a beautiful sunrise. So I guess today’s thought is to notice something beautiful today and really appreciate it.

Mt. Hood Snow

There’s no snow at all in the forecast for Mt. Hood, but there is something worth talking about, so that’s something. Today will be overcast with a chance of a few sprinkles in the morning and a bigger chance of a few sprinkles in the afternoon. The snow level will be 7000′ early and 9000′ in the afternoon with W wind at 15mph early and 25mph in the afternoon.

Tomorrow will likely have some thin high clouds with filtered sun. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 10,000′ early and 12,000′ in the afternoon with 5000′ temps maxing out around 50 degrees. Wind will be W 30 all day. Expect sunshine on Sunday (how apt), with the FAF at 12,000′ and temps at 5000′ in the upper 50’s. Wind on Sunday will be W 25. The warm weather continues on Monday.

Gorge Wind

It’s NOT nuking in the Gorge this morning. iWind/iKite is only reporting 34mph at Rooster and 22 at Steven’s Locks with an E .12 gradient. The east wind will fade to 10-15 at Rooster this afternoon and less at Steven’s Locks. Tomorrow looks light and variable (LTV) with maybe W 5-10 in the afternoon. Expect LTV wind on Sunday.

Gorge Weather

When I left my house this morning, Nothing was happening. Expect Nothing this morning. If we’re lucky, the Nothing will give way to high clouds this afternoon. We’ll have just a few sprinkles today, with a few more sprinkles after 1pm. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon.

Tomorrow starts out with Nothing, but the nothing gives way to high overcast sky and maybe some sun in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Elevation will make a big difference in high temps this weekend. You may have to go up 1000′ to find those 50+ degree temps.

Anyway, expect sunshine on Sunday with temps in the low 40’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. If you go up above the inversion, you’ll find temps well over 60 degrees. Now… the trick is figuring out what elevation is perfect. Maybe 3000′? Bring a t-shirt.

Road and Mountain Biking

I didn’t make it out on the trails yesterday. Work, work, volunteer. Anyway, I betcha Syncline is great. I know the Gorge 400 is awesome. Nestor? Probably, but likely quite cold given the 33 degree temps and fog most of the way up to Meadows this morning. Post? Muddy, I bet. Same with Whoopdee. How about Kitchen Sink? Yeah, I bet that and Oak Ridge are A-OK.
