Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

This morning’s weather models are insistent on the snow level staying below 5000′, but judging by the current temp of 35 at Meadows, that’s not the cast. It’s 10:45 as I write this, btw. I had to sleep in after a 12 hour day at school yesterday. So, it looks like we’ll see the snow level around 6000′ during the day, dropping down to 2500′ after 10pm, and as low as 1500′ after midnight. We’ll see .2” water value (WV) of mixed precip between Friday morning and 5pm, for less than 1” of accumulation. We’ll see .7” WV between 5pm Friday and 5am Saturday, for 4-6” of new snow. Wind today will be SW 20-25 all day, picking up just a touch tonight.

Saturday bringing orographic (terrain-enhanced snowfall), meaning we’ll see periods of snow interspersed with sunbreaks, most likely. The snow level will be around 1500′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ after midnight as the sky clears. We’ll see .2-.4” WV during the day, for 2-4” of new snow. The snowfall should stop in the afternoon, leaving us with partly cloudy and then clear sky. Wind on Saturday will be SW 30 in the morning, turning to W 20 in the evening and SW 15 after midnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Sunday starts off clear and quickly turns cloudy. Snow starts up around 11am and continues on through Monday morning. The snow level Sunday will be around 2500′ in the morning, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ after midnight. We’ll see .5” WV between 11am and 5pm, for 4-5” of snow. Another .6” WV falls overnight, for 5-6” of snow. Wind on Sunday will be SW 15 for much of the day, SW 25 in the late afternoon and evening, and W 30 after midnight.

Monday currently looks like a day full of orographic snow flurries and sunbreaks. The snow level will be 2000′ all day. We’ll see about .3” WV during the day, for 3” of new snow. Another .1-.3” WV falls overnight, for another 1-3” (probably the low end) of new snow. Wind on Monday will be W 30 all day.

Random Morning Thoughts

It’s rather late on Friday morning, so perhaps it’s best if I get this forecast out now rather than contemplating what to say. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s still raining. Expect temps in the low 40’s this morning and mid 50’s this afternoon. Light to moderate rain all day with clouds in the morning and sunbreaks in the afternoon. Light wind. 98% chance of rainbows, especially in the afternoon. Saturday looks sprinkly through 5pm followed by dry weather. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Light west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Sunday looks dry through 11am and then wet. Quite wet, actually. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

Syncline is open. Twin Tunnels is open. There’s also some riding on Hospital Hill (unclear exactly what is open). Post is covered in downed trees and snow still, although Mobius is clear of snow and tacky in the clearcut – you’ll have to ride the road to get there. Definitely a better place for a jog than a ride right now.

Upcoming Events

It’s rather late on Friday morning, so we’ve all missed the Kickstand Coffee and Donut Run. That’s okay, because the Tri Club folks have a trail run planned for Post at 8am on Saturday. There’s also a party at the Meadows Nordic Center all day Saturday. Dirty Fingers has a biathlon (cyclocross and shooting) tomorrow at 3pm.

In other news, Ron Wyden has a town hall at Hood River Middle School on Saturday at 11am. At 6pm Saturday at Kickstand, there’s a fundraiser for an organization that helps kids whose parents have died in avalanches.

Have an awesome day today!
