Friday. Here comes your weekend!

BigRainbow
Clouds from a weak weather system have pushed into the Gorge this morning, and gradients increased rapidly over the 5am to 6am period. At 6am, we had .10 (pdx-dls) and .06 (dls-psc) with high clouds all the way to Arlington. It looks like this front will take its sweet time moving eastward today, leaving our wind a bit on the gusty side. That said, you can expect 13-16 from Stevenson to Arlington until mid-morning. By noon, the wind should pick up to 23-27 from Hood River to Doug’s, possibly at Stevenson as well. By early afternoon, as the front starts to clear the Cascades, the wind should rise to gusty 25-29 from Stevenson to Maryhill, filling in at 22-25 at Roosevelt/Arlington. Continued after the chart…

Gorge wind forecast, continued…

High pressure builds inland on Saturday, tamping down the gradients as the day goes on. We’ll likely start out with Dawn Patrol in the 17-21 range from Stevenson to Arlington. That wind will last a couple hours before fading away. By mid-morning, the westerlies should be limited to the Stevenson to Mosier stretch, with speeds in the 10-13 range. Desert heating should keep the wind blowing in that range until the evening. Sunday currently looks like east wind at 20-25 in the morning, becoming light and variable in the afternoon.

Friday sees a couple of weak weather systems moving through, but if you jump on the late morning wind, you’ll likely be happiest. As of Wednesday morning, it’s looking like Friday will start off with Dawn Patrol (46 degrees) at 22-25 with a midday session of 27-31 from Viento to Rufus.

Looking at Jones Beach, we’ll have nothing today and 20-23 on Thursday and Friday. Sauvie’s looks like 5-8 on Thursday and 10-13 on Friday. Out on the coast, there’s not much happening today. However, the next four days look good (north/central/south). Thursday: 10-15/15-20/30-35, NW 7′ @ 13 seconds. Friday: 20-25/20-25/30-35, NW 8 @ 13.

Road and Mountain Biking

If you’re looking ahead to a weekend on the trails, it should be a good one. The dirt in Post Canyon was riding fast and fun on Thursday, and nothing should change. It’s even possible we’ll get a touch of rain tonight, making things better. In case you’re planning a ride, here’s your fo-sho open list: Post, top to bottom. Syncline. Whoopdee. Nestor Peak. Oak Ridge. Kitchen Sink. Gorge 400. Sandy Ridge. Falls Creek to the Horse Camp. Siouxon. Surveyor’s is NOT open. Has anyone ridden Lewis River yet?

Upcoming Events

Friday’s events include the weekly Kickstand Coffee Run, where 4 miles of jogging earns you a free cup of coffee and a donut. There’s a free yoga class every Friday night at the Heartgate Sanctuary in Oak Grove at 4:30.

Tomorrow starts off with a group trail run at 8am in Post Canyon. All speeds of runners are welcome to this weekly event. There’s a free youth fishing clinic tomorrow morning at Mayer Park. Pacific Hermitage has a garden party midday, and the Pond Skim happens all day at Mt. Hood Meadows. The Fly Fishing Film Tour is Saturday evening in The Dalles.

Have an awesome day today!
