7/10 Gorge wind and events

Good morning,

Before you read on, please remember that this report (wind, snow and events!) is brought to you free of charge. Nobody pays me to do this unless you do! If the report saves you time, money, keeps you in the loop, or just helps you have more fun, please take the time to

make a donation. Suggested minimum: $12. That gets you on the mailing list and in the running for prizes. That’s $1/month You pay more than that in gas driving to the beach or the mountain. I know I’ve saved you that much. Kick down! Thank you for your support!

Yesterday’s strong wind gives way to … well, more strong wind today. The gradients this morning are 0.18 and 0.09, and it’s already 30 at the Hatchery. It’ll be strongest between early and noon, at 28-33 near Hood River, with 26-30 at Stevenson and Mosier. After noon, it should back off just a bit, to 24-28 from Stevenson all the way to Arlington. Tomorrow we get continued west wind in the 23-26 range near Hood River, and then, if the forecast holds, less wind Thursday and then strong west wind all the way through the weekend with a super-nuker on Sunday (the day of the super-nuker keeps changing, but I sure like the idea… as if this morning’s 30mph isn’t enough!).

Coming up tonight, you can hang with the Hood River Triathlon Club at the Event Site for 500 yards of swimming, 7 miles of biking and 2 miles of running. If the wind backs off tonight, there’s the free Big Winds Ladies Standup Paddle Club at the Event Site. Check with Big Winds for a yes or no on that. At this point, I’m putting my money on “no”.

Tomorrow night, Families at Family Man is mountain biking for all ages. Come on up and try out the latest features built by Matt Klee and the rest of the HRATS. There’s also the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle on the White Salmon, the Post and Pinot women’s mountain bike ride, and sailboat races out of the Hood River marina.

Coming up this weekend, it’s Kiteboarding for Cancer at the Hood River Event Site. Don’t forget, you don’t have to kite to get involved. You can show up on Saturday before 11am and drop off fresh-baked cookies for the athletes, who are raising money for cancer research.

Have an awesome day today!
