5/26 Gorge wind, events, and parking lots.

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

This morning’s amusing ad:

The Canfield Brothers Yelli Screamy
Really Temira, seriously? You’re advertising a bike? A random bike we’ve never heard of? A freakin’ hardtail? Yes, I am, and I’m doing it because I love this bike. So does Jason Wells, who built GP for you. This bike is the Post Canyon destroyer. Slack head tube for descending.29″ wheels for rolling over stuff. Very, very, very short chainstays for fast responding bike action that’ll make you giggle. And yell. And scream. I slay the Gorge on this bike. You should too.Contact sean@canfieldbrothers.com for more info. We’ll have a demo day in late June. Stay tuned.

Sorry about the late report. I don’t understand. I went to be before midnight. I woke up at 10am? That’s ridiculous. I’ll blame it on Dirty Fingers and their prom, although I was totally sober when I left, making for poor excuses for sleeping 10 hours!

The Oregon Enduro Series continues today with 3 stages – or is it 4? – of downhill racing in Post Canyon. You can watch the action at the bottom of Post Canyon Road or along various points on Mitchell Ridge. This is part of the North American Enduro Tour this year, so you’ll see some of the best pros in the country riding our trails today. You’ll also see lots of people out riding bikes elsewhere, as they avoid the crowds in Post: There were 30-something cars at Whoopdee yesterday. Crazy. And … uh… people, there’s a PARKING LOT at the Whoopdee now, just before the trailhead. Use it!

The Clymb: free membership. Cheap gear. Temira approves. Click to join.

Another nice option, if you like poison oak and ticks, is Syncline. Or the EasyCLIMB, but if you’re going there, take friends and ride really fast, because it makes the trail fun! And if you’re headed to Hospital Hill, leave your dogs at home – the cows are out.

Coming up this afternoon, you can play pickup touch rugby with some local scrummers at the Mosier School at 3pm. Beginners are totally welcome, so what have you got to lose? Come check it out! Also today, there’s pickup Ultimate Frisbee at the Hood River Marina starting at 4pm. And remember, registration is open for the summer Ultimate Frisbee league – get more information at gorgeultimate.leagueapps.com.

For wind today, we’ll see light wind this morning, but the wind will pick up this afternoon as an upper low moves east: we’ll see westerlies pick up to 15-18 from Stevenson to Mosier with 22-25, maybe a bit stronger, further east. Tomorrow starts off light with low twenties in the eastern Gorge in the afternoon and upper teens near Hood River. Tuesday afternoon brings slightly stronger west wind.

Have an awesome day today!
